Ultimatebass.com set a major milestone in bass fishing forum history recently by hitting 1 million posts on the 30th of March 2011 at 7:29 pm. 1 Million posts is a whole lot of information.
Ultimate Bass has a long history dating back to 1994. Laurie and I started a team tournament circuit in Central California. This circuit became very popular and was averaging 75 boats per event. In 1998 I was stationed in Osan A.B. Korea and Laurie moved to our follow on base at Barksdale, Louisiana. I returned from Osan in the December of 1999 and in the summer of 2000 we decided to start our tournament circuit in the NW Louisiana area. Sitting at the on base bowling alley for lunch, we came up with the name Ultimate Bass.
For the next two years Ultimate Bass was growing very quickly. Mailing out newsletters was becoming a very tedious job. Laurie had been learning the Internet and how to build websites for the last couple years and decided that instead of publishing a news letter she would put tournament information and team standings online. This took off well. In 2002 things started heating up in the world and military deployments were becoming very frequent and at times long. I was deployed in preparation for the second gulf war and didn’t have a time when we would be home, it was at this time we decided to suspend the Ultimate Bass tournaments. It was just too much for one person to handle. Ended up that I was gone for almost a year.
While I was deployed Laurie had the website and nothing to do with it. With a lot of self teaching and research she learned how to build and load a forum to the current Ultimate Bass site. In the beginning several Northwest Louisiana members were using the forum to talk back and forth and post a few fishing reports. When I got back from the war, Laurie added a section to the forum for our bass club to use for meeting notes and post tournament results. Very quickly Ultimate Bass became known as “the” website for information in NW Louisiana. This got Laurie to thinking….
And now you have Ultimate Bass at what it is today! A thriving community that grows every day. In the last four years we have had upwards of 3,500 new members a year. On March 1, 2011 we had our 17,000th member join and on March 24, 2011 we hit 80,000,000 pages views. That’s a lot of people and a lot of people reading what has been posted to Ultimate Bass.
In celebration for this milestone Ultimate Bass held a contest to see if someone could guess the date and time that the 1 millionth post would be made. With hundreds of guesses made, member JKarbo214 was the winner with a guess of ’30 March at 7:35 pm’ just six minutes away from the actual time. For his guess he will receive a Quantum Spinning reel supplied by Monster Fishing Tackle (MonsterFishingTackle.com)
