As if the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods wasn’t already the biggest show in fishing, a surprise announcement at 10:00 a.m. this morning by country music superstar Jason Aldean is certain to make the event historic.
Aldean, nominated for both Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year for the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards, announced a free-to-the-public pop-up special performance to be held directly after the Classic weigh-in on Friday, March 16 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greensville, S.C. (650 N. Academy Street). Doors will open for the weigh-in at 3:15 p.m., and seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Aldean is a passionate outdoorsman and lifetime bass angler. For the past two years, he has been a spokesperson for Field & Stream, an outdoor specialty brand and retailer, which is owned by DICK’S Sporting Goods.
“We’re thrilled to bring to life Field & Stream’s partnership with Jason Aldean through this surprise pop-up show at the world’s premier bass fishing tournament,” said Robby Dorsch, Brand Manager, Field & Stream. “We know a lot of our consumers are also country music fans, so we’re excited to create this unique experience for those who will be in Greenville for this great event.”
Bassmaster fans are sure to know some of Aldean’s greatest hits, like “Dirt Road Anthem,” “Tattoos On This Town,” and “Any Ol’ Barstool.” But they might not know that when he is not on stage, he is an avid angler.
“My dad and grandfather introduced me to hunting and fishing when I was young and being in the outdoors is now a passion of mine,” Aldean said. “Fishing is something I love to do with my daughters, and hopefully with my son when he gets a little older. I don’t think there is a better way to spend quality time with your kids than being with them in the outdoors.”
And there is no better way to spend a Friday afternoon than watching the world’s best bass anglers alongside the hottest talent in country music.
