The Twin Cities Team Club fished its October tournament on Caddo Lake. The club met at Elsie’s truck stop earlier for breakfast and conversation. Once all the talking had ceased and everyone was loaded, we all headed for Earl G. Williams Park to launch. The day started out nice with temps in the lower 70’s, a clear sky, and a light wind out of the southeast. The water was heavily stained from the recent hurricane and the temps started out in the lower 70’s as well. By the end of the day the air temps had climbed into the upper 80’s/low 90’s, the sky was mostly sunny to partly cloudy, winds out of the east/southeast 5-10, water temps had risen to the upper 70’s.
Weigh in was held at 3pm at Earl G. Williams park pavilion, with 10 team represented. Seven out of the ten teams weighed in fish, however there were no limits brought in, which shows the ugly side of Caddo. There were reports of teams catching in excess of 10 fish over the course of the day, however most were short or slot fish. No one pattern or bait seemed to overshadow all the others, the baits used were as varied as the anglers.
Coming in 3rd place with 2.44 lbs (2 fish) were Mitch Bowen and his partner Kenny Parnell. They were fishing out of Kenny’s ProCraft and reported catching their fish on twin tail grubs, white in color on a light jighead. "We would pitch the bait onto hydrilla, pull them off the edge and dead stick it."
2nd place went to the team of Greg Wayand and Chris Korkoske, with a weight of 3.53 (1 fish). They reported catching their fish on black/blue sapphire baby Brush Hawgs off trees. "The fish weren’t on the trees, but about 2 feet off the trees."
1st place and big bass went the to the team of Mike and Laurie Cork, with a weight of 5.48lbs (2 fish), big bass weighing in at 4.06 lbs. Mike reports "catching" his fish near Whatley Island in his catfish cage, where he has been putting all his fish this past week. All joking aside, they reported catching fish on white spinnerbaits around grass beds that had wind blowing over them.
Congratulations to all the teams that caught fish and placed. Talk has started for the next tournament to be held on November 6th. Final voting to start after today’s tournament is completed. Looking forward to seeing all the members next month on what should be a great tournament with better numbers of fish.
