Decatur,Alabama to Host Final Tour Stop for Southern Division BASS Opens
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 2007 — Wheeler Lake in north-central Alabama is the site of the third and final tournament of the 2007 BASS Southern Division Open, October 18 – 20. Pro-anglers are competing for 3 coveted spots in the 2008 Bassmaster Classic on Lake Hartwell in Greenville, South Carolina in February.
This TVA lake is Alabama’s second largest and stretches 60 miles from Guntersville Dam to Wheeler Dam near Rogersville. The upper end of the reservoir is a run-of-the-river reservoir as it goes past Huntsville and begins spreading out near Decatur. Stump flats, weed beds, and creek channels are popular locations in the middle section. The lower end has many steep banks and long points.
Pro-angler Terry Scroggins of Florida took the lead in the Southern Division points standings after the 2nd event of the year was held on Santee Cooper in Manning, South Carolina in May. Close behind is Charlie Hartley of Ohio, followed by Mark Davis of Arkansas. Only 83 points separate Scroggins and Davis. However, other pros are within reach of qualifying for the dream tournament of a lifetime and it is anyone’s game until the final bag is weighed in on Saturday, October 20th.
