Still up on stage, before Skeet was crowned the 2009 Bassmaster Champion Iaconelli is stuck on the hot seat. Snowden weighs in his catch of the day and while the numbers come up he tells Keith Alan and the crowd that his fish came on a jig “blue green in color’, swimming it just off the bottom. Snowden comes up short and Keith Alan asks Iaconelli what he thinks about the hot seat. “Well it’s just fate right now” says Ike. “If I don’t win you all better watch out next year”.
Next up is Martens and while his bag is being weighed in tells Keith that “I worked a drop shot with a baitcaster in shallow water”. After the weights came up and Martens knows he didn’t make it He stated “I did all I could do but that’s fishing.”
Keith heads back to Iaconelli and asks if sitting on the seat is a good thing? Ike says “This it is but it isn’t such a great place to be right now; Get back to weighing in the fish!”
Now Jordan heads off stage to his boat and brings back his sack. Jordan tells Keith that he used a Lake Fork Magic Shad to get bit but left his hole due to the cold and when he came back after the weather warmed up found another competitor on it. The weight isn’t enough to bump Ike so as Keith walks over holding the microphone up he asks Ike if he is confident. Ike’s response “I’m always confident but if it doesn’t happen it’s great, if I lose they deserve it, they are all great anglers!”
Evers is next and as he stands by the scales it looks as if he knows it wasn’t meant to be and he says, “They are working Team Nitro, because three of the top six are in Nitro wrapped boats”. Keith takes the long walk back to Mike Iaconelli and all Ike has to say is “Both Skeet and Jamie deserve it; if they win they deserve it!”
Now all the attention is on Skeet Reese, as he jumps in his boat the crowd is pumped. While the bag is being weighed Skeet tells Keith that “Watching Duckett catch that six pounder in the last 20 minuets hurt in 07 but it’s not over yet. I fished dirty water using a spinnerbait and fished 200/300 yards and then went back flipping Berkley crazy leg chigger craw” The weight is announced and Ike is pulled off the hot seat and Skeet is shaken but finds his way to the chair.
Now with only one angler left it looks as if both know it is only a matter of time before Skeet takes the trophy. Fralick brings his bag to the scales and says he fished the Jungle. The weights come up on screen and Keith Allan Yells out that Skeet Reese is the 2009 Bassmaster Champion with 54.13 pounds! To say the crowd went wild is an under statement, they erupted and Skeet held the trophy high over his head, besides thanking his sponsors and family he said this “winning created validation, didn’t know if he would ever win, it’s a very fickle sport”.
See you on the water.
