LBAA next stop Kentucky Lake

(Paris, TN) – The Lady Bass Anglers Association (LBAA) anglers are on the water pre-fishing the big expanse of water known as Kentucky Lake in preparation for their upcoming tournament Thursday, July 12 and Friday, July 13. This stop on the LBAA tour is the Lady Bass Anglers Association Larry Shaffer Memorial Tournament. It has been named so in honor of the deceased husband of LBAA pro angler Emily Shaffer, Larry Shaffer, who passed away earlier this year.

Shaffer, a long-time angler and marine and boat expert is being memorialized this week as the anglers of the LBAA take to the waters of Kentucky Lake.

“I owe my success to Larry and all the women that have supported the different women’s tours that we have had, stated Emily Shaffer. “Larry was my largest supporter and he supported all the women. I do not know of anyone he didn’t help if asked. He was a great teacher and could break down what he was trying to teach you where you could understand it. That, to me, is something you are born with.”

Shaffer, who avidly enjoyed fishing, tournament fishing, and hunting, was known everywhere for his expertise in the marine electronics and boat rigging fields. “He loved learning Lowrance Electronics. When we would travel (I would be driving) he would hook up the latest electronics and learn what they had to offer,” she fondly remembers.

“We would be going down the road and he would say, “You aren’t going to believe what this unit will do!” He told me once he never got into to video games, but I think the electronics were his video games. He played with them so much people could call him from anywhere and he could talk them through their problems over the phone! Ask Larry Nixon,” Shaffer concluded.

Many stories fondly remembering Shaffer will be shared both on and off the waters of Kentucky Lake this week as the anglers and staff of the LBAA have converged upon the Paris, Tennessee Kentucky Lake-South area to compete.

Competition dates are once again Thursday and Friday July 12 and 13. Pro anglers may bring up to five legal bass in to the weigh-ins this week and co-anglers may bring three legal bass into the scales on competition days.

On Saturday, July 14, the Lady Bass Anglers Association Angels Community Clinic Charity Tournament will take place. This tournament is open to the public with proceeds going to Angels Community Clinic. Entry fee is $100 per team and has a guaranteed 1st Place prize of $1,000. A $100 bonus will be paid to the highest finishing team with a female team member and the highest finishing team with a child age 12 or under. Membership in the LBAA is not required.

Launches and weigh-ins will be at the Paris Landing. Launches will occur all three days at “safe light” and weigh-ins will get underway at 3 p.m. each day.

At the conclusion of the weigh-in, drawings for raffle items will take place adding another level of support for the Angels Community Clinic charity. Many national and local organizations contributed items for this raffle.
