Maybe it is because I am getting older. Maybe it is because, there, by the Grace of God, my children were never distressed by a life threatening disease. Hearing the stories of strength, trials, faith, and hope it has inspired me.
Maybe it is because I am getting older. Maybe it is because, there, by the Grace of God, my children were never distressed by a life threatening disease. Hearing the stories of strength, trials, faith, and hope it has inspired me.
If you can visit with one of these wonderful children, or even become aware of their personal story, I promise, you will be touched. The reason I got involved with the Make A Wish Foundation is explained in one simple statement.
“Lives are Measured in Memories, Not Years”
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Wish children are referred to the Foundation by immediate family members, medical professionals or the children themselves.
Upon medical approval, a volunteer team sets up a time to visit with the child to determine the one wish in that child’s heart. Then the wish team makes the necessary arrangements for the wish to come true (average wish cost is $6,000). The goal is to provide a joyful and meaningful experience that gives the immediate family time together away from medical treatments & medical bills.
The Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® is one of 65 chapters throughout the United States and its territories. Since 1980, more than 178,000 children have had their dreams fulfilled through the efforts of Make-A-Wish Foundation® volunteers and donors. Since our chapter’s inception in 1984, we have granted over 4,500 wishes.
In fiscal year 2008, we granted 368 wishes. Your money benefits all of OUR children as it stays in our area. To maintain the integrity of the mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, responsible stewardship of funds is promised to every donor, sponsor, volunteer and wish family. Each year the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter’s financial records are audited by an independent auditing firm. The 2007 audit revealed that 91 cents of every dollar donated was used or set aside for granting of wishes
This is the first year that USA Bassin and myself have become involved with the make a wish foundation by hosting a benefit bass tournament. We are bringing in sponsors, vendors, volunteers and anglers to attempt to help make a memory. After all, how you base your life is upon your memories; help us to make the memory of a lifetime for a child.
