Fun Day on the Lake

Lake Palestine Palooza

Gayle Helms, Executive Director of the Humane Society of East Texas, a selective admission no kill animal sanctuary in Tyler, is proud to announce that the 3rd annual Lake Palestine PALOOZA will now be a fund raiser to benefit their organization. When approach by H&W Marine, the main organizers of the PALOOZA, regarding joining in this increasingly popular event, Gayle was thrilled for the chance to raise funds and awareness for their cause. The other organizers of this event include H&W Honda of Palestine, Gander Mtn. and The Villages Resort.

Established in1969, the Humane Society changed its name in 2008 to the Humane Society of East Texas and made the moral decision to no longer euthanize animals and to become a selective admissions, no-kill animal sanctuary. With the growing homeless pet population in our area and now the lack of city and county funding, the organization is more than ever in need of the community’s support.

The Lake Palestine PALOOZA has become an anticipated annual event held at the Villages Marina on the Saturday of Memorial Weekend. The date for this year’s event will be May 29th. This giant Lake Party has live bands all day, several local radio stations broadcasting live, food vendors, exhibitors, bounce houses, great raffle prizes, the annual Bassmasters Casting for Kids competition, boats in water for demo rides, motorcycles, ATVS, lake toys and more. It has proven to be a super fun event for the entire family on this kick-off-the-summer holiday weekend.

When asked; why the event organizers chose the Humane Society, H&W Marine’s General Manager Chris Knight said; “Since our goal has never been to make money from this event, but just to gather the community for a fun day on the water, we thought all our efforts could also benefit a good local cause. We have always been huge supporters of conservation groups like Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl and we put on an annual Poker Run to benefit MDA, for this event we wanted to benefit a local cause. We are all pet lovers and knowing the great work Gayle does with the Humane Society and their growing needs for funding, it was an easy pick. We are hoping that the community feels the same and will come out and join us for a fun day to support this well-deserving cause.” H&W Marine and H&W Honda are family owned by East Texas’ natives, the Hughes Family. They have boat, motorcycle and ATV stores in 7 locations in Tyler, Palestine, Marshall, Texarkana, and Little Rock with a new location of H&W Marine opening this month in Bossier City.

The PALOOZA will continue have FREE admission but this year will request you bring a donation of dog or cat food. The Humane Society will bring out some great pets available for adoption. Vendors at the event will be donating a portion of their sales from the event to the Humane Society. There will also be some great raffle prizes with all proceeds going to the cause. H&W Marine will be offering a week-long promotion May 29- June 4 where they will donate $100 for each boat sold from their Tyler Store to the organization. H&W Honda of Palestine will join in this promotion by also donating $100 for each motorcycle or ATV sold during these dates.

A fun day on the lake with the entire family on this holiday weekend while benefiting such great cause makes this event a must for everyone’s summer calendar.
