Over the years I have had many discussions and posted in many threads about fishing products. Discussions like are expensive rods and reels really worth the money and much the same for baits and other various fishing items. I never really gave polarized sunglasses much thought. For years I have used whatever brand I could find preferably on the less expensive side. I just didnt really see a need to buy anything more expensive. Heck all polarized glasses are the same, right? Well, I am here to tell you I just found out that I was wrong.
A couple of weeks ago I was at the 4th annual UBCS (Ultimate Bass Club Shootout) at Lake Bistineau. We were all getting some things together and telling fish stories when Laurie Cork asked me to field test a pair of polarized sunglasses for a product review. I said “I would be happy to give them a try.”
The next day before we headed to the dinner line Laurie walked over to me and said I needed to come check out the glasses to make sure that they were going to fit. I walked over to her truck and she pulled out a box that contained a very nice case with the polarized glasses in it. I recognized the name right away, Costa Del Mar. I said wow those are some nice glasses. I thought to myself good grief Im going to get to field test some the Costa Del Mar Osprey polarized glasses and all Im going to be able to say is they are nice. I had it in my mind that polarized sunglasses are all the same. Dont get me wrong I know that there is a difference in the quality of the construction and materials but as for as the polarization, that would be the same as a pair of $10 glasses. I took on the challenge any way and told Laurie I would put them to the test.
The glasses I have are the Costa Del Mar Osprey. They are made for a small framed face, which is one of the reasons Laurie chose me to field test this particular pair. Im sure she would have much rather had kept them but they just didnt fit her, darn. The lenses are the 580 cooper color glass lens, and the frames have removable side shields. All I can say is Wow! These glasses are awesome.
If you think, like I once did, that all polarized glasses are the same you are missing out. The polarization of these glasses is by far better than anything I have ever seen. Needless to say the quality and craftsmanship of these glasses are outstanding. The 580 lens blocks the glare of the sun off the water like not other polarized glasses I have used. I was also able to see what was in the water much more clearly with these lenses.
I did a little research on Costa Del Mar and found that they offer so many options its unreal. The thing I like about the company is they have so many glasses and styles to choose from. I promise they will have a frame that will fit and look good on anyone. Im not promising they will make you look good but they will look good on you. I personally like the 580 lens because its glass not plastic or any other style lens that easily scratches. The glasses I have with the cooper colored lens really makes everything sharp and clear and eliminates the glare on the water. I was amazed at how much better I could see things under the water with these glasses as compared to a cheaper pair I had. Costa Del Mar also makes a variety of lens colors that suited for individual preferences.
If you are looking for some quality polarized sunglasses, I would highly recommend Costa Del Mar. Check them out at http://www.costadelmar.com/
