Bassmaster Classic Lake Conroe Day Two – Brent Ehrler proved he could catch a twenty-pound bag without having a nine pounder. Dave Lefebre proved he is “Mister Consistent” with another twenty-pound weigh in. Edwin Evers showed everyone he could catch a limit early and spent the rest of the day just checking on possibilities for tomorrow. The top ten anglers are full of confidence heading into the final day of the 2017 Bassmaster Classic. In fact, everyone making the top 25 cut is looking forward to fishing tomorrow because the weather will finally be an advantage. Day one the wind blew at nearly hurricane force, today anglers were dealt a cloudless day with little to no wind and high-pressure post front conditions. Tomorrow, the final day, anglers are excited to have nearly perfect fishing conditions.
Keith Combs fell victim to the hometown favorite jinx. I spent a few minutes with Keith to find out what the leaders are going to have to do to put themselves in a position to win the 2017 Bassmaster Classic on Lake Conroe. Keith predicted, “These fish are very shallow, and the spawn is in full swing. I expected the bass to be deeper and in post spawn. The guys catching them right now need to keep doing what they are doing because bass are still moving up. These guys have found places where bass are reloading regularly. The guys catching bass just need to keep catching them doing what they are doing,”
Brent Ehrler leads, making him the angler everyone is gunning to catch. He told me he likes where he is at. While not a huge lead on the top five, Brent does have a healthy lead on the rest of the field. At this point, it appears this Classic is Brent’s to lose.

With the perfect fishing conditions and Lake Conroe’s history of producing monster bass, everyone expects a slugfest at the scales. We will see very soon, and a new World Champion of bass fishing will be crowned.
