Trailer tire issue

Just got back from my 1200 mile round trip fishing trip.  I was cleaning things up and washing everything up and the tires are shot.  The outside 2 inches on one tire is bald as the treads are gone and the other side is feathering off too.  Of course my year warranty ended a couple months ago.  The tire should last longer than that and if there is something wrong with the axle, you'd need more than a year to discover that.  I'll bet those tires don't have 3000 miles on them.
Anyone else have this problem, or know who makes these tires?

Sounds like you've got some axle issues and I'd be talking to Bass Pro about it.

Good luck with BPS, I called three of them when I needed hubs for a Tracker trailer and they were clueless morons. Is it just one tire or both?

The one has tread gone on the outer side and the other is on its way.  Maybe they are a cheap tire but please, even cheap tires last longer than that. They were fine before I left on the trip because I checked pressures and stuff and would have seen something like that.

You're right they should last a lot longer than that. Just wondering if they are both wearing on the outside it seems like they both have a camber issue. Either bent axle or bad/loose bearings.

mine did the same thing i put new tires on and they are fine them tracker tires are no good

I called the dealer I bought it from and they want me to bring it in for pictures....it's 80 miles away.  Not going to happen, that thing is not leaving the driveway without new shoes.  All I need is a blowout on the interstate and wreck everything.  The guy I talked to said they have had some problems with tires.

What did you put on for tires?

What pressure are you running in them?  My dealer told me to run nothing but 50lbs in mine.

kenda load star radial is the best tire for it that's what i have and they are the only tire that makes an 8ply for the 175-80-13 6ply will work but get the 8ply and be done with it

Those pictures make me lean more towards a cheap tire issue.  Of course we bought our boats at about the same time from the same place.  Might just bite the bullet and replace the stock tires pronto.  I'm with ya, that trailer wouldn't leave the driveway with the tires looking like that.

I'm sure to keep my eye on pressures from now on.  I think they are pretty cheap.  3 Ply tires from what they say.

From looking at the pics I'm leaning towards a mechanical cause. (Positive camber, or toe-in).

You will have much more Luck out of BPS if you take the trailer toan alignment shop for a check and advise. Won't cost you much and you will have solid numbers to argue with them with.

I figure if the axle is wacked, it should have shreded those tires last year on the same trip.  I wouldn't know how the axle would be bent sitting on my back patio over the winter.  I guess I just get new skins and move on.

As they say "There is nothing new under the sun". Shawn has the best idea. A good alignment shop has seen your issue before and can cure it before you throw new tires at it. Bad tires will chunk, peel, wear out fast etc, but the kind of wear you have is due to an alignment problem of some kind.

MY BUDDY HAS A NITRO AND MY FATHER IN LAW BOUGHT MY TRACKER FROM ME... BOTH DID THE SAME THING. DEFINANTLY LESS THAN 300 ON BOTH OF THEM. HAD AXLES CHECKED OUT. NO PROBLEMS. PUT NICER TIRES ON THEM AND AINT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE.

I had the same problem with the tires on my 06 pt175, put new tires on it and same problem. Less than a year later the outside edges were worn badly, got a new axle put in. Same problem, i put 52-55lbs of air in them and that seems to have fixed the problem. Looks like the tires are finally wearing normal, only problem is now the trailer is bouncy from putting more than 50lb of air in them.

Well, I heard from the dealer and they are getting me new rims and tires.  Hopefully that'll do the trick.  It'll be the same factory ones, but it saves me money at this point.  Will still put radials on at some point.

Heck, I ended up with upgraded wheels, but same tires.  We'll see how it works.

Thanks for the follow-up and congrats on the new wheels. Play with the air pressure and use the chalk method to find the best contact patch.

mine have done that too, but on the inside of the tire.  I'm thinking it may be an alignment issue if that can occur on a trailer.  Don't know the fix for it either, but need to get it fixed before I sell the boat.  Thought it was the bearings, but they are replaced & torqued properly and at correct settings.  Tire pressures are as per manufacture

For y'all up there in snow country, those winter winds can wreak havoc on cheap tires...I had to have the "brand new" tires replaced on my travel trailer when I was in North Dakota because the winter caused them to check and crack...put on the new quality tires and never had another issue.  The tire importer was really good about the warranty and upgrading them to a better item but they admitted they had winter issues due to colder climates...btw, I spent a few years in Omaha so I know the kind of crap y'all live through.

my going on 4 year old Marathons are starting to cup on both tires.  no wear, just pieces cupping off. (In Omaha).  every winter stored in unheated, but inside garage... Not this year...

Will probably buy 2 new ones in a month or so.

I have a 2005 175 and my tires did the EXACT (and I mean EXACT) same thing.  I bought some bridgestones and have not had an issue.  My tires were 6 years old, but I didn't take the boat very far.  I think it's just poor quality tires.
