So I am getting really excited to go fishing but its hard to get out there for my first time due to schedule of work and the little one.

So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of games I could get to play while I can't make it out to the water?  I have PS3, WII and a laptop. Are there any realistic games out there that are worth purchasing to take the place of actually being out at the water?

Best game I've found is to tie a rubber casting-weight to my line, go out front, and practice casting at various targets in my yard.  How close can I get to the mailbox from the front porch?  Can I flip it to the third bush in the flower bed?  Can I hit the base of my neighbors tree?  how far up the street can I throw it?

Best fishing game around.

X2!!!  I am always fishing even when I'm at work...LOL  Going over scenarios in my head for upcoming tournaments, reading articles, reports, etc...  Its the era of social media man.  You can always be getting better even when your not physically on the water

You can do what I do and just make it worse on yourself by pulling out the Map and Google Earth and start marking points to try out when you CAN go fishing. You know those last few minutes at work right before you get off, how it just DRAGS... Yea, its like that, it makes you want to go fishing so bad that it just DRAAAAAAAAAAAGS Out!  lol

I pitch and flip into a bucket in my backyard. I also have the rapala wii game which is fun as a 10$ game can get. There's also a rapala fishing game for iPhones

I don't see a lot of gamers around here, that's all. Most here are grown and outdoorsmen so games aren't really something that gets discussed.  Nobodys upset.

Don't get me wrong...I'm a grown outdoorsman...I shoot, fish, jump out of plane, race stuff, and I love video games...I just don't know of any that will help out with improving ones fishing skills.  That's why I use casting games when I can't fish...it's just like actual fishing...without the fuel costs!

I play video games and the only one I had on PS3 was rapalas with the rod/reel thing (had two surgeries what else could I do couped for 2-3 months). It was ok but not realist or very fun. I was catching pike and rainbow trout at lake fork!!!! There was an old on for nintendo I think called black bass was a lot of fun.
Otherwise i organize my tackle, make sure my lines are good to go and fish for my cats!!!

I didn't expect to improve, I was looking for a game to pass time. I have a 15 month old that usually is in bed by 8 and I usually read online or play a game til I knock off.

I was actually out back yesterday tossing my line at a small tree. I guess its not a bad thing to do that more often...

Sometimes I'll tie a soft plastic (WITHOUT THE HOOK) to a line and pitch to the bushes when there's cats around, Fun as hell. (AGAIN, WITHOUT THE HOOK)

Trophy Bass, it was made in 95 by Sierra you can play it on your laptop, I have had it since I was a little kid, it is pretty good, I still play it in the winter.
You can buy it on ebay through this link right here it is only 4 bucks, you can't go wrong IMO. I lost it from when I was a kid and bought it ebay last fall with no problems at all.

That one is on ebay right now, the bid is at 1 cent plus 4 bucks shipping, no one else will bid on it more than likely, you will get it for 4.01. Give it a try, you can fish tournaments and or fish for fun on it. It is a simulation game (I am pretty sure BASS endorsed it) and I don't want a wrath brought on me because I know it is nothing like being on the water, but you can actually learn a little bit from it, because the fish actually move on the lake based on season, water temperature, and weather that day and generally speaking the common lures that would work best in real life will be the ones that catch the most bass in the game in the same situation. It is a pretty legit game, I like it.

Hope this helps

I've still got a copy of this game and it's arguably the best fishing game I've played (not that I've played that many).  As far as fishing games go there just isn't much fun to them in my opinion.  I fish to spend time outside, LOVE the challenge of trying to fool a fish into biting, and feel the bend in the rod of a fish on the line.  NONE of these things can even come close to being replicated sitting on a couch inside.

Oh I 100% agree, it doesn't get touched from late February through November, just in my experience that is the best game I have seen by a longshot

There is Rapala Pro bass fishing for ps3. My girlfriend got it for me 2 years ago because she got tired of me pitching a jig with no hookpoint down the hall way. So I went to a rubber worm, and she thought it was a snake on the floor. I dont think Ive laughed that hard since. But the game is a blast and you use a wireless rod and reel to boat the fish. And you have to deal with weather changes, and change your retrieve with different baits. All in all its a great way to kill time when you cant get out there.

I have that one as well, I wasn't a huge fan of it, it can be fun in small doses I think but it has the yellow dots on the map that show you where the hot spots are and if you fish those you can catch a world record within 10 minutes. That was the main thing I didn't like about that one, you could pull up on a spot that the game tells you exactly where to go and you can catch like a 40-50 lb limit with ease.

That's what I like about the other one I mentioned before compared to that one, you have to locate the fish on your own, and they are realistic sizes, and you usually have to cull to increase your bag to a point where you are high on the leaderboard.

I'm a gamer... my "man cave" proves it lol but the last fishing game I played was "Florida Black Bass" for Super Nintendo as a kid. Weather has been rough lately which I'm happy about lakes were crazy low. I have reorganized my tackle bag and took a part and cleaned / lubed my reels. While at work I do the google maps thing lol and read this forum. I also read articles from my Fish and Wildlife website. I toss in my backyard but I have a dock... :-)

I've been trying to tell my Son-in-Law this for over a year now. If you want to get better at fishing, you need to get better at casting. If you can't hit the right side of the piece of cover you're casting at then you're not going to catch the bass that resides there.

KVD made that point in his book.  It's all about being efficient...you only get a small amount of time on the water so you need to be able to hit targets quickly when you cast.
