IMO and I stress my opinion. I like the versatility of the Stern Mate as you can mount the transducer anywhere on the plate and adjust it from there without drilling holes..........with yours if you drill holes and make a mistake then its drill more holes. And then if you drill to deep then what?? Don't have to worry about this with the Stern Mate. Also if you want to remove the Stern Mate and mount it in a different location, it comes off with little trouble.
Just asking questions here as a consumer. I'm not in any way affiliated with any company or such.
Also Thanks for the reply.
I have several guys that want to quit drilling holes in there boats and are interested in this approach to mounting Transducers on the transome

I have a 1198 SI, and mine does the same thing. I contacted Hummingbird, and they told me I needed a second transducer, a high speed transducer and a y cable to achieve readings while on the pad. My unit came with the y, so I ordered the transducer, and got $15 rebate. It cost me $50 bucks. Suppost to be hear first part of the week. I have my SI transducer mounted similar to yours, and works great at idle, and fast idle speeds. I think though I will mount this one lower, to get it in the water.

HP-Let me know how the second one works out. I contacted Humminbird too and they basically told me everything looks fine but that i could change the teeth position to slightly slant it more into the water. I've done everything i can with the position that it's in so I'm just letting it go for now. I may in future try a different mounting position after i talk to a cew more guys at the lake and see how they have there's mounted. I appreciate all the feedback on this forum!

I will let ya know how it works. I have just 1 step, so I had to mount mine where you did to keep it safe. I am hoping to mount the second one up from the bottom of the hull a couple inches and it work. I am going to contact hummingbird tomorrow for assistance on the mounting. The reason our want read now is when we get on pad, it's not the water enough like it is at idle speed. But not really any other options if we want to use that type of transducer, and protect it from getting knocked off.

hpdi200, the Y cable that is shipped with the unit is NOT the one needed to connect two transducers to the display. The AS SIDB Y cable is the one used for the Side Imaging installations. The other option is the TS3 switch to choose which transducer to use.

If you have a suitable hull (thin fiberglass) your setup should use a shoot-thru 83/200 kHz transducer (XP 9 20) instead of a transom mounted 83/200 kHz transducer.

Do the proper installation for your hull to get the best performance.

Have not installed it yet. I was going to start on it last Tuesday night, and as I was getting ready, I broke my foot. Going to try this week end I hope.

I got the second transducer, and y cable put on this past Sunday morning. It was a simple installation. Took me about 30 minutes. Took it to the lake, and ran my boat at high speed, and it read, and worked perfect. If you guys are thinking about doing this, it is real simple, and not expensive. I had around $100 in everything. Worth every penny being able to see my electronics work at high speeds.

My Skeeter has one step, then the bottom of the hull. My SI transducer is mounted where the boat comes down at the top of the step, like most everyones is. I put the second transducer, about 3 inches up from the very bottom of the boat, about off set to the right of my intakes, and drains, if you standing at the back of the boat looking at it. I mounted it at that height so it would not hit bottom, and stay away from debree in the water. I took it out, and it worked great. I cranked it up to full throttle, which is 70 mph, and it read a constant reading. I will try and get a picture up soon for you to see.
