I wanted to share a conversation I had with non other then Rick Pierce, President of BassCat boats last fall.  He came to fish the Brech Marine's tournament in Selma, AL.  At that tournament I was having my SabreFTD being built and my Bro and I fished out of his 1998 Jaguar.  Rick idled over to say hello and I had to ask what's the fastest he's gone in a BassCat boat.

"Are you ready for this"?   :shocking: :shocking: :shocking:  About 10 plus years ago, can't remember the exact year he mentioned at a BassCat OI event he had a special modified Jaguar (20' boat) with a special modified 260 HP Merc Motor and he topped out at 116 mph!   PoPo PoPo PoPo :shocking: :shocking: :shocking: :shocking:  He went on to say that he burned close to 50 gallons of gas in 45 minutes.  Thank goodness gas was dratically lower back then.   ~roflmao

One more thing.  He has came close to 90 mph in the go fast BassCat Eyra with a first year hot model 250SHO.  I think the SHO motor has been dialed backed some to meet industry standards.    DISCLAIMER!!!!!  DON't EXPECT TO DUPLICATE THIS if you decide to purchase a BassCat Eyra and a 250HP motor.  However,  it's compelling to think the Eyra's hull can actualize such speed potential in extreme conditions.  Going forward I hope you all enjoyed a bit of BassCat speed triva for entertainment purposes..  Also, do know there is no one motor that is faster then the other.  The criticals are experience with boat setups and props.  Well,  I do have to admit BassCat has some mad engineering skills with their hulls.

On the consumer side there are a few that have done some special things with their BassCats.  I know Doug McGee has gone 84 mph on the GPS with Cougars powered by 250 Etec orn Merc XS engines.  Also,  Bama96 and I had a test day in his 2010 Pantera II with a 200SHO and he logged at 77.8 mph in extreme conditions (cold weather).    So all said Bass Cats are fun to fish out of but they also offer impressive speed potential to for those who like to push the envelop.  In closing understnad this is not mine is better then your boat but rather info that's all BassCat for BassCat owners entertainment.  There are many great boats out there but in our world we sure can have fun with our BassCat boats.

Now be safe and push the pedal to the metal and get those livewells stinky/. ~c~ :) ~fff

Basscats are amazing, I have riden in the Puma and the Cougar and love both of those hulls. I could only imagine the Eyra, and would love to have one of those.

Creel Limit Zero

116 MPH...   :shocking:  I would not want to go that fast.

Broskee,  I owned a 2010 Eyra/2011 Yamaha SHO and that 20'2" boat was many things.  What stood out to me was the natural lift the boat had,  the solid safe feel at higher speeds and how nimble it was to drive.  It's equivalent to a strap your arse to a rocket and hold on for an exhilarating experience behind the wheel.  That boat is a work of art.

Ya know Flyswatter, I have seen a good many Bass Cat Boats that run a lot faster than the owners will tell sometimes. They just smile real big when they pass another brand of boat that is suppose to be a fast boat. I think most Bass Cat owners are more aware of the boats potential after they have owned one and found the sweet spot. Shoot, my Classic is 25 hp under powered and I have past a few 200 hp rigs already so, I know what I have as compared to some other brands of boats. Another brand of boat that is of the same size and hp as a Bass Cat will usually be left behind in a dead out run for the money, so to speak. Bass Cat hulls are faster than most other brands of boats right from the factory. I have seen this with my own eyes already. I have no doubt in my mind that Mr. Pierce hit 116 MPH in one of his own creations. He and his company are one class act. I know I'm tooting my horn but, we should be able to on this forum.

Man I can't believe you sold that Eyra. :o

Bama,  One door closes and another opens....  Getting past my daughters jubilant wedding this summer I'll be enjoying my BA SabreFTD till the right BassCat comes along.  When that day happens I do know it will be 19' boat for SHO!!!   ~shhh lo

Hey Bama, its my prediction that if FLY doesn't end up with another one of those Eyra's he'll step out to the Jag. The Ultimate Bass Rig      :)

Bama96, I told Flyswatter the same thing, I didn't know the reason until he told me about his daughter's wedding. I would give my left you know what, to be able to own one of those Eyra's with the 250 SHO. Maybe someday.

I can read but cannot hear.  All I hear these days with ladies in he house are wedding bell rings.   ~roflmao

My Eyra with the 250SHO never reached it's potential.  I was hitting 82 mph in summer temps.  That be okay by me.....  I felt a bit slippery in the seat at those speeds.   ~sweat  :) Of course if I had it I would have pushed further in winter time temps.  IMO If Doug McGee would have had it he would have slapped a bigger wheel on it and gone up to 84-86 but we'll never know.  Of course I would have had to B.O.A.T. in green backs for a hydraulic JP to make it all work.

Who cares how fast they can go. Once I hit 70 I give Fly the steering wheel. Ain't nothing on any lake that makes me want to throw away another $50 in gas just to be the first one there. Besides, once I get over 70 I have a hard time keeping my teeth in my head LOL

just saw the post about the jag.  i was at that tournament and went for a ride with rick.  he did not lie about the fuel consumption.  rick spied me fishing while they were putting out the yellow ducks and came over to see how we were doing.  of course i asked to take a ride, and rick just said lets go.  that boat actually drove like a dream at speeds over 95.  by the way flyswatter, my nickname for rick is footsie.  the reason for that if you are ever around him much, he can never stand and keep his feet still. lo
