I was traveling back home up LA 171 to Hornbeck and just had to stop and take these pictures.




I couldn't take pictures of the lake "West Side of the highway".  These are taken of the "East Side of the highway".  It brought back some great memories and some sore thumbs. 

You guys ever fished this part of Vernon Lake?

I was wishing I had some more time and had brought my boat
The lake is full of stumps and has some pretty decent bass in it.
These pictures aren't of the main lake but a part that sits on the East side of the train tracks and highway.

You know we could make a couple day's trip there.  We could stay at the Guest House on Ft. Polk which is like a 30 minute drive from the launch ramp.

I havent fished that part drive by it all the time it is a good looking spot
If I have my boat and I'm right there then I'm too close to Toledo Bend and keep going

Donald where were you coming from to end up on 171 did you go through Lake Charles or Moss Bluff

Fished there many times back in the late 60s and early 70s west side also.Red Mann's Jellyworm or Purple,also Black and Hold On tight.I lived down there the 1st 25 years of my life!

We spent the night at the guest house on Ft. Polk and decided to head back to Texas via Pendleton Bridge and TX 7.  My wife had never seen that part of Toledo Bend Lake.

Bubblegum I was stationed at Ft. Polk for 5 1/2 yrs 86-91.  I had a blast fishing Central Louisiana especially Vernon Lake.  Of course there were several trips to Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn during that time also.

I found that Motor Oil Fire Tail, Chrome Rattle Traps, White Spinner Baits, White Buzz baits and Tiny Torpedo were the baits of choice back then.  Oh of course you had to have some crawfish colored jigs also.

Vernon is one of my favorite lakes. You are just seing a small portion of that lake. It all looks awesome.

I had heard that there were some "Boat Lanes" constructed on the lake?
When I was there there were (2) places that you could run for about 2 minutes.
One areas was the length of the dam and the other area was right there in front of the bank vic of the launch ramp by the office.

Ok Donald so I see  you know these parts for sure being at Fort Polk that long

Donald they cut some more lanes and marked all of them better than theu had it a few years back.

Thanks for the update on the boat lanes on Vernon.  One last question are there any camp grounds there now.  I know most of the land around the lake is private with homes on them.

I don't know any on the lake but I believe there is one just down from it.

There aren't any campgrounds that I know of on the lake, but there are several around Leesvile.  There is one just down from my house off of 171, about a mile north of HWY 28 Intersection.

I'm thinking about coming over that way later on this summer / fall.

I don't know if any of the TCTC guys have ever fished Vernon Lake before
Its been 21 yrs since I fished it but I've heard the fishing has improved since then.
I always had a good time fishing it

  We could fish Vernon one day, head to my house, and fish Cane River Lake the next!

That would be great.  I enjoyed fishing the cane river the couple times we had tournaments there.
