How do you think Shreveport bossier did with the classic. I did see that the attendance was down a bit but I think the anglers liked the support we showed. I hope it does come back in again soon.

BassBUFF

The anglers had really good things to say all around! I do believe they'll be back.

If I hear "ROLL TIDE!" one more time I think I'm
Going to throw up in my mouth! :)

If Oklahoma has another snow storm like they did last February, I wouldn't be suprised to see them come back here!

I can see 2 of us in the second pic! ;D

The general concensus from all of the Pros I talked to was this is one of the best lock systems they ever fish Todd! They did a great job! Please let the folks know! ;)

Its probably the newest and least used they've ever been in. What a waste of however hundreds of millions of dollars they cost us.

Fisher of Men

I think channel 3 news said there were 97,000 people and and cost revenue of around $115 per person.  Over $15 million dollars into the city of Shreveport/Bossier for the weekend.  Not tooo bad

Hmmm, maybe you haven't seen what goes up and down the Red River...since the Port is south of Shreveport.  There's LOTS of commercial traffic coming in and out every day.

I hope we get the classic back in the near future and maybe an elite event soon. It was a lot of fun

squeler

No i havnt seen any barges. Thankfully I only fish it  a couphel of times of year.

Brushhog11

SO....I guess what you should say is that you dont know what your talking about since your only out there afew times a year!

danisfish

Whether their is ever traffic on the red again or not the locks have paid for themselves already. My family owns land that goes to the banks of the red river. It was not always so. There was a farm behind ours. Erosion took the entire farm prior to the locks and controlling the current. Millions of dollars a year in property are saved in the state every year due to the locks.
Just something else to consider.

I don't know if anyone is aware of this, but every dollar that is spent by the RRWC brings back 5X in revenue...pretty different from what other state/federal agencies do.  And recreation is a "side" benefit from the commercial aspect!

What he said ^^^^ On the final day when we locked back through, several of these guys were saying how great of job you did managing the lock. I even saw KVD come up and shake your hand and say thanks.

I know I say a lot of UBers come stop by the Hydrowave booth! There were so many people at one point on Saturday that it was almost impossible to walk through the hallway upstairs!

Well, I know we (my wife and I) spent a hell of a lot more than that! Shoot $10/day parking at the Convention Center, gas, hotel, food etc

I will say we have never felt so welcome to a "foreign" town before lo All the UB crew was great to us and the people in the area were as nice as can be. Oh and we "took good care" of any wait staff at any food establishment very well ;)

Did I mention how nice the folks from UB were to us? lo Hell I even learned how to go 4x4ing in a boat across stump fields.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool...thanks to everyone (spectators) for staying away from Lock #5, it would have made my job much more difficult dealing with 100+ spectator boats.

We had a great time there also.  Everyone we met at the restaurants, gas stations, the Expo and Century Links bldg were extremely friendly.

DB, I have to agree with your statement too > $10.00 dollars a day x 3 for parking etc.  Yep those UB folks we met too were pretty darn friendly ~c~ ~c~

If you were willing to walk just a bit farther you could have parked at Samstown parking garage for free! Thats what I did and I used that extra money I saved on parking to buy a couple of IMA Shakers crankbaits at the expo. They look sweet hopefully they will actually catch some fish. Overall though I think the area did great hosting the Classic.
