Wondering what everyone's fluke setup is just to compare and see if I need a change.  I use a Dobyns DX703SF, an Abu Soron spinning reel and 10lb seaguar invizx with usually a 5/0 ewg hook.

I use a BPS Extreme 7' MH with a Rick Clunn reel 6:4 with 17# flouro, Gamakatsu 5/0 EWG sometimes with a 1/8 oz split shot.

I just throw them on one of my stickbait rods, I use a Falcon cara jerkbait special with a older curado SF , 8 or 10 lb sunline sniper and usually a Damiki viper hook.

I was just on bassmaster.com and was watching the championship that Ott DeFoe won.  On the last day, Z-man, KVD, and Overstreet were following Ott around and they did a few looks at Ott's Tackle.  KVD commented on the efficientcy of Ott's Fluke rig.  He was using spinning gear with 10# braid tied to a swivel.  From the swivel, there was ~18-20" of flouro and then the hook.  I haven't tried this yet myself but KVD was saying this was a good way to get distance on your casts as well as good hooksets on the fish.  He also mentioned that the set up did not hinder the action of the bait.

I like that idea.... i hate how the damn fluke will roll over on the retrieve... this should help that as well.

I use a 7 foot medium light, extra fast tip spinning rod, a Shimano Stradic 2500 spinning reel, 10 lb. PowerPro and a 5/0 EWG hook.

I occasionally break off a fish with this rig, but I believe that the light line allows for more lure movement.  And based on my catch rate versus my usual partner, I'd have to say the fish agree with me.

I've considered switching to braid but I use this rod for wacky rigs too.  Guess I could use a leader.  Best to use backing of some sort or the little stickies power pro has in the box?

Diffidently backing since you can spool two reels on 150 yards of power pro if you use enough backing, also by using a leader you can go two years without cutting any braid off. Once you get the uni to uni knot down you will not go back to straight flouro.

I always use a lightly weighted frog hook or swimbait hook with a flat bottom on flukes to keep them from spinning on fast jerk retrieves in warmer water. Most people around here only use flukes during shad die offs and then put them up the rest of the year, but I believe they are a year around lure.

I also learned if you use flukes on an A-rig you must use a weighted hook or jig head or the will spin like a prop. The Mr. Blitz Toad Toter is a fluke hook IMO, hard to find but I won't throw a fluke without one anymore, the weight is in the middle of the fluke and acts like a rutter to keep the fluke up right no mater how hard you jerk it. It also seems to set itself almost and not being a light wire hook I can't explain why, I just know it works.

I just use a little square of electrical tape to secure the line to the spool.  Then I fill the reel.  The only time I ever use a leader is when I'm fishing around zebra mussels.

Ok thanks for the replies!

i fish jerkbaits in the slop and heavy weeds, so i use a powell endurance mag heavy that doubles as a frog rod. has a great tip and nice backbone for getting fish out of trouble quick. i usually use daiwa samurai in 40lb. im not worried about fish seeing the braid as there's usually so much vegetation where i fish them it just blends in. im still trying out different hooks and jerkbaits this year, but im leaning towards screwlock type flipping hooks like the owner twistlock or the moaner stick-r.

I'll use two rigs depending on cover.
7' BuCoo medium with a stradic 2500 and 6lb power pro
6'10 BuCoo MH with a core 50mg and 10lb power pro
I use at least a 4/0 gammy...

Captk88

7' Loomis Green water med heavy with braid, 5/0 EWG super line hook.
