Went out yesterday after work for a few hours and ended up having a little success. The pics are from the little patuxent river, but my question is from the pond I was fishing yesterday.

I have a pond at work I know has tons of bass. I started yesterday with a inline spinner bait (rooster tail) and landed a few. at this point I wanted to switch to a lure I have never had success with to gain some confidence. I tied on a jig, and nothing. went back to the spinner and bam, fish on. The water was murky and cold. I also tried a 3" crankbait and 4" soft plastic worm with no luck

could the bass in the pond be using the vibrations to find food and not so much visual cues? the water is almost always murky.

Thanks in advance
Brian

I would suspect it is using the vibration to find the bait if it is that murky.  Plus, somtimes you can call a bass from a distance with a spinnerbait, where a jig has to be flipped closer to where they are to get them to bite.  What color jig/trailer were you using?  If it is dark, you would want to use a black/blue jig, something pretty dark.

Your bass were probably in the upper 1/3 of the water column. It was warmer than normal.

Both the bass look like smallmouths. Nice catch for the end of January, definitely helps break up the winter boredom. Where at in the Middle Patuxent did you catch them?

Thanks guys. That all makes sense.  It was really murky. And I caught the smallies in the patuxent where 32&198 meets
