Been a while since Ive been on UB, let alone posted anything. Found out a few weeks ago after having some back pain for about two years that Ive got a bulging deteriorating disk. Pretty much the last thing I wanted to hear at 20 years old, but Ive decided I cant let that keep me from fishing or anything else I love to do. I plan on getting back on the water soon just wanted to say whats up again to everybody at UB!

Sorry to hear about your back I know 1st hand how much a bad back can mess up your day but Welcome nice to see you get a chance to stop back by UB.  ~c~

WHAT EVER YOU DO DON"T LET THEM CUT ON YOU YET....... OMG I have some experience with back problems and multiple surgeries. I now have 2 rods, 3 braces and 6 bolts in my back and have been told I'll be on pain meds the rest of my life......

That's another story though  ~sweat

Great to have you back, take it one day at a time, don't push it. Stretching even if not very far makes a huge difference in a day!!!! Get your stomach mussels in shape, don't end up with a gut like me. A strong stomach will help tremendously.

I appreciate it guys. I dont plan on letting them cut me open just yet, just trying the anti-inflamatory. My dad has been through all the same things, guess thats what the oilfield will get you haha. Ron, I live right down the road from you I drive the tan z71. Maybe we could hook up and go one day out here

Wow this is amazing Im sitting here on the couch at home when I should be working for what else ? severe back pain ! I never would have expected to see a thread about back pain but just goes to show you how amazing this website really is. I have had degeneration of my discs since my early 30's I am now going to be 42 if the good Lord decides it this year and it is really starting to take a toll on me. about 7 years ago I had a procedure done where they inject dye in your spinal chord and have you on a tilting table and take pictures of your spinal column and nerves. I guess it was to check for pinched nerves IIRC , at that time I was advised to find a easier line of work and strongly advised that I have 2 surgical procedures performed on my neck ,where they go in from the front and  install plates and screws to strengthen the vertebrae  and he wanted to do it in 2 surgeries at 2 different locations saying I had one priocedure done then recover for 6 months and have a second one done. I never had the procedures done because financially it would wipe us out to miss that much work. The last time about 3 years ago I had an episode they said it was now in my lower spinal column so basically I am degenerationg at both endsI guess if they ever meet in the middle Ill be in big trouble :) I Meant to get on here and ask opinions from members on what they do on the water to minimise back pain because I suffer for days usually after fishing on the water all weekend. I am in therapy again till friday and should be ok to go back to work on monday, since the VA was closed yesterday I went to a local chiropractor and  I figured Id give him a chance since I have never tried treating it that way before Good Luck to you boudreaux 23 hopefully you will find the right treatment and path to recovery while you are still young! Ibuprofen 800 seems to help me alot  for about a 3 hour span , electrical and heat and cold therapy also help and I can still work with it in my system ! I dont recommend the narcotics cause they come with a whole nother set of problems !

Bigwrench, sorry to hear about your back and neck problems. No line of work or amount of money is worth having to go through all that. I was also hoping to hear some ways guys with similar problems deal with this on the water or after all day in the boat. I know fishing is one of the hardest things on the back but its something that Im definitely not giving up! Ha hope this leads to some helpful information
