River/creek fishing in the winter

I just recently got back into fishing this fall and I have the itch to fish. Does anyone have thoughts on fishing spots in the winter? I don't have a boat and was thinking small creeks like the patuxent? Or small ponds which prob won't produce much? Thanks in advance
