TN small game hunting

So rabbit season opened here in TN but it appears that you can not hunt small game while a big game season is going on. If that is the case, you can't small game hunt until January??

Is this true and if so, why bother opening up the season in Nov??

In Mo you cant hunt squirrels during deer rifle season except with a shotgun.
one of the reasons is the amount of travel the smaller caliber rifles have. the fact that we have to wear blaze orange doesnt come into play when a .22 can travel over a mile.

YEah and I can see that as a good idea. I can also see it during gun season to limit the number of bodies out in the woods, but during bow and black powder. COME ON! lol

Not sure what you read, tndiver.. I'm from TN, and have hunted all of my life. I just double checked the regs there, and I only saw a few exceptions where you cant hunt small game during big game seasons. Double check them, and if in doubt, call the TWRA.

Thanks Charles. Apparently that is the case, that some WMA's here where I live near Nashville ban it during deer season, probably to limit the number of hunters in the field so fewer accidents.

I stopped hunting a long time ago. I snared small game in my youth and today,with just a few snares in a small area, get as many rabbits as I need. If you can't hunt small game in your area, are you allowed to snare it?

Yup, you can small game hunt all you want, you just have to wear blaze orange during the deer season....
