Fella's, need ya'lls expert advice/knowledge...  I'm looking to upgrade my MG 46lb TM to a Minn Kota Maxxum 70lb unit and I was curious if the mounting holes are the same?  What have ya'lls experiences been with installations?  I have read where some say they are, but no definitive answers yet.  I have a 2005 PT190 with the factory 46lb MG on it.  Tired of getting bullied by the wind and need to upgrade now!!!

Can't remember if I had to drill any holes but I have the maxxum 24v 80lb hand control on my 2008 pt190. Fits fine. Wind is no longer a problem!!

I upgraded my Mg to Minnkota.  Things didn't mount the same. so I made a mount the fit in the MG holes on the boat and mounted my Minn.  to the board that I made.  It works fine for me and was pretty easy.

Go ahead and upgrade that plug up front for trolling motor to bigger heavy twist lock plug. My first upgrade was the 70# thrust I scored on eBay. Kept burning up the brushes in it. Thought it was cause I used stock wires for it. I upgraded wire and plug, replaced brush housing the brushes melted to and tried it again. Worked great for about an hour then just stopped. Melted brushes to housing. Guess that's why I got it cheap on eBay. Ha. On the plus side, 70# was plenty and you will love it. I plowed through thick mats and lily pads flippin and it didn't phase it. My 80 is overkill but love it.

well guys, went to bass pro last night and picked up the floor model for 10% off!!! got it installed this morning and holds lined up perfectly to my old MG mount.  Minn Kotas mount has multiple holes for diff mounting applications.  i just used 4 bolts and put lock nuts on the bottom sides and its really sturdy.  def looks like i have to rotate the motor every time i raise it, but unless i hang the mount off the front, theres really no way to get around it.  it looks good where its at so its staying.  going to store now to get batteries, plug and circuit breaker. doesnt look like i have to upgrade wiring, i'll never have this thing on high pulling full current anyways. 24V systems pull .75A per hour per lb of thrust, so stock wires will be fine in my case.

Good job on the direct bolt. Did you use some sort of isolator or rubber washer between the TM and hull? You will want to. I just cut the top of the original isolators off and used those. Cuts down on the vibration. Also drop the breaker down to a 40 amp and you wont have to worry about the 8 ga wires. At 50 amps you could do some damage.

Yea I used the MG rubber pieces and cut the bottom part off and ran some lock n uts and washers to the bolts. That thing is solid. User manual called for 50A breaker that's why I bought one.  What size wire is on the trackers?

8 gauge. I put on a 71# MG and dropped down to 40 amp breaker. Have had it for over a year now and only tripped it once when on high for extended period while cavitating. a 50 amp breaker allows too much for 8 gauge wire. drop to a 40.

ok went ahead and got the new breaker and got everything installed. its a tight fit, but i took some pics that i think will upload this time...  thanks for the advice btw soFL. by the way, where do you live at in FL? home for me is ocala.  lived all over the state from miami, palm beach, ft walton beach...

1- pic of foam in bottom of trays for some cushion.  (used ole ladys exercise mat and cut it up  ;D )
2- all 3 batteries in place.  it wasnt easy but after planning, measuring, etc i finally got it.  pretty easy install, just tidious.  sure beats spending extra money for installation.  now gotta wait for the weekend to try her out.
