Minn Kota Talon on a Tracker 175 TXW

I put a Minn Kota Talon on my Tracker 175 TXW. Works great!

Okay, was it just me or during the 1st 30 secs the boat kept moving?

No, the back of the boat was definitely stopped although there is some flex in the anchor. The front of the boat was moving around with the wind.

Okay, it looked like the back was bouncing up and down and moving side to side a bit. That thing sure does look skinny though, if it flexed with 15 mph winds I can't imagine it doing well in 20-30 much less 30-40 mph

I personally wont be fishing in 30-40 mph wind no matter how good of an anchor I have.

Just realized something though, you said it did flex a little in 15mph winds. You also have a tin boat. That tells me the Talon would not hold well at all on a glass boat with a 200HP that weighs quite a bit more than a Tracker with a 60.

All I know is that it worked great for my boat on my first time out with reasonably strong winds. My tin tracker boat actually blows around in the wind way more than the heavier fiberglass boats so I'd assume it would hold a heavier boat just fine.

Actually if you are moving (which you will in any wind) that pole would have a lot more weight and momentum to stop and hold still if it were a glass boat. All I'm saying is if it flexed a little, as you said, I wouldn't drop that kind of money on it. So your video and statements made it clear that this wouldn't be the best purchase if you want a shallow water anchor to use in wind (which is the whole purpose of it).

ok, whatever?? All the shalllow water anchors I've seen have a flexible pole that flex some. Flexing back and forth 6-12 inches is way better than my the alternative of blowing all over the lake so I'm happy. I blew all over the place the last year with the high winds and now I dont.

I have to Totally agree with DB about the Problems with the Talon. For the Money spent the Powerpole comes out on top in all test. There are several side by side comparisons on Youtube and the Powerpole wins everytime.

Be careful with the Talon on the road too. I know there have been a few of those brackets break and left them on the side of the road.

Now now, no putting words in my mouth. I never said I had a 200hp glass boat. I said it would not hold well on a glass boat with a 200hp. You are wrong, again.

Did you research this purchase and if so why did you pick Talon over Power Pole?

Don't say cost because the sportsman series of power pole, which would be more than enough for your rig is give or take options in price range.

So was it installation issues associated with your rig? Just curious. You throw this video up and offer nothing?

Mike, yes, I researched both the power pole and the talon. The cost is about the same for both unless you want the upgraded signature series power pole which was more expensive. The biggest reason I chose the talon was because I just dont have room in my boat for the hydraulic unit. I plan to upgrade my 12V to a 24V trolling motor so I'm adding another battery which will take what little room I have. All the Talon has is an electrical connection to the starting battery so it takes up zero room. I paid BPS to mount my talon. They had to remove the motor to put on the bracket which is more than I wanted to tackle. The talon appears to mount very easy once the bracket is on the boat. The bracket appears to be extremely sturdy and it looks just like the brackets I've seen on power pole equiped boats. There are clearly a lot more power poles out there and I've heard nothing but good reviews on them. I probably would of purchased one if I had more room to put the hydraulic unit. I did talk to a fisherman on my lake with a Talon and he was very happy with the product. I've only used it one time but it definitely worked as advertised. A couple of the comments on this thread are about how skinny the pole is. If you look at the Power Pole it has the same time pole on the lower half and it and it does flex as well so this appears to be the same on both products. The flex I noticed in my talon was no big deal and didnt affect my fishing at all. Earlier I had one of the Dig In Anchor systems on my boat. It was a lot less expensive but even with the 8 foot pole it only worked in water less than 4 feet deep and it didnt work at all on hard bottoms when there is wind. The Dig In Anchor had a huge amount of flex in it. The first time out the Talon worked fine in some of the clay hard bottom areas I fished. By the way, I'm not sponsored by anybody and I dont fish tournaments but I do fish about 90 days a year and I do work hard for my money so I all I want is something that works as advertised. I'll be happy to provide an update after I've had it for awhile.

Nope not a Tracker. But I assume you never went on any other boat thread on here unless it was a Tracker then? No rules that say I have to have a Tracker to view or comment on the Tracker threads. All I did was raise some points on your video and you got all defensive about it. I do appreciate the entertainment though.

Bass Colonel don't let the haters get to you, Thank you you for posting something as cool as a video of what you use and what you like on your very own boat.

Good luck and please let us know how it holds up,,,,, there have been issues posted with them a while ago, hope everything has been worked up and they give you years of fun on the water.
