Okay so I go out and start to tinker on the boat and find out the tilt/trim switch isn't working. At least I think thats the issue. It will power down but I have no upward movement when I hit the switch at all. All connections are tight and clean but it still won't move up. How do I check the solenoid or the switch? I am hoping that I don't have to buy all new switches and controls because they are built together on the handle.  :-\

Does the switch on the motor move it both ways? If yes, it's the swich on the throttle. I no, it's probably a bad relay. There ahould be a pair of relays on the back of the motor, one for up movement and one for down. Swap the relays with each other and see if the problem moves with it. If so, replace both of them because the other will also fail soon! ;D

I will look to see if it has 2 relays in the am. I have to say I am not sure because of 2 factors. First this is the first boat I have owned w a motor. Second it just started messing up today. Our last trip out on the lake a few days ago it was going both up and down okay. Now granted the motor has been giving me issues,,I think it is fuel related. Trying to stay positive but the more bugs I find the more I miss the simple jon boat and a paddle.  lo I guess my friend was right when he said BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand.

I agree with what BassBuff said !

After looking at the motor and following the switch wires back,,,there are no relays on this year engine. So I think I am just going to replace the whole solenoid and see how that goes.

your motor uses a 3 wire trim motor operated by a solenoid instead of relays. you can check if it is the switch with an ohm meter. hold the red lead of the meter to the red wire coming from the switch and the black lead to the blue lead. when you hit the switch up it should show a complete circuit 0.0000. if that is good I would test the solenoid.

I willl try that and see if it is the switch. I just have to use an older meter with the dial on the front for a selector. This should be fun. My digital meter was lifted out of my truck along with a few other tools the other day while I was shopping at Dick's in Orlando. ~rant Not use to these older ones so finding the proper selection should be fun.

Got the trim solenoid changed out and now it works fine. Of course a new problem showed up. After starting the engine on ear muffs fuel started coming out of the carbs. Looks to be coming from the float bowls or bottom of the upper carb. Does anyone have a diagram on how to rebuild or take apart and clean these?
