Every year usually the last couple of weeks of July and the first two weeks of August around here in West Central Alabama,  there is a large shad hatching. Trillions of small threadfin shad hatch out and a lot of them go over our local lock and dam. The catfish will always be there tearing them up. A lot of the locals are wearing them out on slab spoons and Little George's. Anything that resembles a shad will catch them down there right now. This yearly event will continue until about the last two weeks of August and then the fishing action slows down until Fall at which time bass, catfish and crappie will start feeding real good again to prepare for winter. There is no limit on catfish around here but, you can have only one catfish in the boat that is over 34" per group. I think that law was imposed due to some guys trying to call them up on a telephone, if you know what I mean.
