Has anyone besides Jay Pea added a homemade power pole type anchoring device to their boat.  I'm thinking about having a bracket added to the stern of my boat to accomodate a aluminum pole or some type of removable bracket that can be placed anywhere along the rail.

You got me think on this issue and now i got to figure out how I would make one!  :-\

DBrooke

I don't remember who, but someone here has/had one they actually bought. I want to say Fogy but can't remember for sure. I may now have to dig until I find the post.

Seems to me that an ideal solution would be a bracket that rotates 90 degrees (locking in place like a trailer jack) and hooks to the side of the boat - so that your pole can actually remain in the bracket and just be flipped parallel to the deck and out of the way - until it's time to use.

This would also allow a pole greater than 8' without it being an encumbrance.

Just thinking out loud.

Ok here's a tip for the home made power pole works great on aluminum boats. I use two on the transom of my Tracker.
Everyone has seen them you may even own one.

I'm talking about transom mount trolling motors that don't work anymore.

Take the head off and slide out the trolling motor you now have a base for a non power pole anchoring system and their cheap.
The poles I use are aluminum adjustable tree trimmer poles picked them up at auctions cheap. Old aluminum sections of fence top rail will work also but you'll need to bore out the hole just a little on the clamp bracket to make them work. The tree trimmer poles store at a length of maybe 6'4" and extend to almost 12'.  It's a great system for Aluminum boats. Thought I'd share it with any of those who might be interested.

I have two old Motor Guide bow mount trolling motor brackets that I plan to use the heads off of them to build the next generation of anchors, as soon as I figure out how to make a base to attach them to, to make them removable and easy mount. The clamps in them do not require any modification to use the fence rail for the anchoring poles.

bass1cpr- How do you like the set up on the transom? Do you find it user friendly? I am asking because I am looking to do something similar to that but am undecided as to how I would like to have to go to the back of the boat to reposition.

bass1cpr

I don't have any problem with it I'd rater keep the front of the boat clear so i can cast, pitch or flip in any direction. If someone is fishining with me they get the duty of pushing in the poles. The brackets can be positioned all around a jon boat so you can locate them where you want. My tracker has a wide top rail that is too wide for the bracket's but some other brands of aluminum's it may be possible to move them around the boat also. Most fiberglass hulls have to thick of a transom to use the clamp bracket from a transom mount trolling motor. That's why I'm working on fabricating a mounting system for the heads of the bow mount units. I have a couple of Ideas but haven't gathered the materials yet.
The V-lock bracketts advertised here on UB do offer some options for use on glass boat's to have four permanet base's mounted around the boat if you don't have a problem with putting permanet fixtures on your boat.

I dont have a problem there. I see your point. My problem would be I am usually fishing alone. But given the points you made it makes sense. I have a Tracker PT175. Think that it will work on there? I am guessing you put them as far apart as possible?

Mine's a 2002 pt175 but on the side it says 175xT. Strickly aluminum  and decal no paint. ;D  That's why I bought aluminum no paint to touch up.
Yes I place them at the edge of each side of the splash well.

Hay bass1cpr great idea you got there, and the pole has double duty you can use it for a push pole when you get to shallow to troll out!  :-*

Flyrodder

I'm thinking an easy set-up would be to fasten a 6-8 inch piece of 2" pvc pipe on my trolling motor stem with hose clamps and then use a smaller diameter pvc pipe for the pole. The only concern would be if it would weaken the isolation screws that mount the trolling motor to the boat.

Skinny Water Products is about 10 miles from my office so I went there on my lunch hour and bought a pole and a bracket to mount on the bow of my old Tournament TX.  I can't wait to get home and install it.  I will buy a second one next month for the rear.

Ron, I told them I saw the pictures of yours and that is what sold me on it.

Kal one of the poles has a push button release for the trimmer and I've been using it for a push pole long before I thought of using the brackets for anchoring. The other trimmer is a twist adjust and people look at the boat funny when they see a tree trimmer with a saw balde sticking up on the back of the transom.   lo  It really servers three functions if my fishing partner is making errant cast's fishing for tree bass.   lo

Thanks nmanley I sort of thought it was too. Like I said it's great for jon boats because you can move them anywhere around the boat.
I did have to modify the clamp on the gas fill side. I had to remove the stock clamp screw and customize a regular bolt to get the flat mounting cup back on the new bolt. That way there's pleanty of clearance for the gas fill.  That's the only problem I encountered mounting these on my tracker.
