TRACKER 190 WHICH MOTOR 2 OR 4 STROKE?

Im going to buy a Tracker 190. What motor 90 Optimax or four stroke? Thx.

I would go with the optimax. less weight and more power. but not as quite.

If you can afford it get the 115 pro xs, this will give you the best HP to weight ratio... I have the 90 opti and its great but wish I had more speed after having it a few years (5 years now).. I just got my ECU reprogramed, removed the air restrictor, lightened and balanced the flywheel and its a monster now!!! I love it!!!!!

I hope I am not sending this too late but I bought a 2011 Pro Team 190 in Dec. 2010 and got the 115 Pro XS and its the best decision I ever made. Its quick and good on fuel. The only mistake I made is not researching props enough. I went with the Laser II 3 blade 22 degrees. I think it fits right in the middle of the band of hole shot and top speed but if I were to do it over again I would try and get something more on toward overall top speed. I am doing right around 50 mph on GPS.

At a minimum get the 115Pro Xs, but the boat is rated for 135, I love my 90 opti, but more speed to keep me on g top of the waves would be better. Get what you can afford bottom line, and get ready to enjoy your new boat!

I think I read somewhere that because of the 135's oil tank you won't have room for a third battery. I could'nt live with a 12v tm on that boat.

This is my first post since i signed up... i saw this thread i'm looking to get a Tracker 190 and so far most of the Bass fishermen i speak to are all telling me that 2 stroke is a better move than the 4. This will be my first outboard- at least one that does not require a battery! meaning i dont know much about outboards motors.. there is the 115 optimax which i believe is a 2 and they also have a 90 or a 115 which is 4. I've been told that the "hole shot" with a 2 stroke is better- but you have to deal with smoke, noise and mixing oil.. the 4 is better that the mileage is better no mixing of anything it's quieter and no smoke.. I still have some research to do but i thought i'd start here first

Opti max's don't smoke and oil is mixed automatically. the only down side vs. the 4 stroke is noise. you can barely hear a 4 stroke running.

You're going to be hard pressed to find a 2 stroke made after say 2003 that you would still have to mix the oil and gas. That being said, I don't think that you would be upset between the 4 stroke and the 2 stroke, considering that you don't have a lot of experience in the outboards and guessing that the price difference isn't a big deal to you.

Thanks for the replies.... it's good to hear that they dont smoke.. i read on another Forum that they do and i remember mixing oil/gas with old Mowers... old Mini Bikes i'm glad that they have gotten all that mess worked out.. and yes.. i dont have too much experience with anything new and Modern... i still fish out of a Basstender with an 12v electric outboard. It was damaged at the storage Facility where i keep it, so i have made up m mind to get a Aluminium boat for next season.

So, I guess it's down to the "holeshot" and the Noise debate.. Just looking around i had there was no other Aluminium boats (fully rigged) other than Tracker... Trition ,Xpress(wow- but expensive) and Alumacraft. I think you probabally get what you pay for like everything else...

I have a Crestliner which is the same boat as the Triton. Lowes has a nice 18'. G3 is another padded tin but like the Xpress it's expensive.

thanks for the reply.... I'll tell you something the triton looks like the tracker too.. which looks like the rest of them.. xcept the Xpress... i think for that amount of money i'd rather buy a glass boat and be done with it... but i think for me an tin boat is better..

A tin boat was actually my second boat. I figured it would be the best fit for me because I had to haul it so far to get to any good lakes. I figured I would save on gas and get more bang for my buck. Anyways, that was with an '08 PT 190. It was a great boat and it would do almost everything that I needed it to do. My next rig will be a glass rig. Here's why:

Aluminum will blow around in the slightest breeze when you are trying to sit still which results in more trolling motor use. To me, the more you on the trolling motor in shallow water, the more fish you spook.
Would like to go as fast as most glass rigs. I tournament fish a good amount and I would normally be the only tin rig. The boat was plenty fast at 46 mpn but thats not cutting it when everyone else is doing 65+.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the boat. It takes rough water way better than you would think. It has a ton of storage, very comfortable, and very user friendly. If I would have been in ar area that wasn't always breezy or didn't tournament fish, I would probably keep the boat.

it's all about what you need. my tin is my first after 35 years of glass. I do not fish tourny's. I fish mainly lakes 2500 acres or less and rivers. my tin is 19' and has a front deck larger than my old Stratos 295 Pro XL. I can do 50 mph gps with the 115 Optimax and probably mid 50's when I add the Jackplate. I pull this rig with my Ford Edge with no problem. sure there are times when I miss glass, like in rough water. and lets be honest, they just don't have that wow factor like those shiney fiberglass beauties, but my tin fishes just as comfortbly as any glass boat I have ever fished from.

Hey Guys,
you are all making it very easy to hang around in here. Thanks for all of the replies... well from I am fishing in now(basstender) i can get into pretty small places... and when a duck or a swan swim by i have to Hold on because of their wake.. I think moving up to a Tin boat in my situation is like one you guys moving up to one of those Shiny Sparkly glass jobs.. and yes - you are right.. there is nothing on a Tinny that will make you notice like a glass boat... but like some of you guys you have your rig to fit your situation..

I will tell you that i have seen some of those Tins Going for just as much as a glass boat(used naturally) Where i fish,I fish in less than 10 feet of water and to be totally honest I catch fish in less than 5. I know what you guys are talking about being blown around... guess that means a 2nd battery for the trolling motor. I guess with a bigger rig i can cover more ground and find bigger lakes. ALL of which i am looking forward to. I see guys when they get a new rig they change out the Electronics and the TM...
Lowrance seems to be the deal.... expensive, but it does the job.

whatever you decide to get, one option that I think is a must is a 24v tm. it's not just the extra power. you will have power for a much longer time. I have seen guys with 12v's that were done fishing after 4 or 5 hours because thier battery was drawn down.

thanks for the helpful message.. i was looking around the other day i saw a thread about 3 batteries!! I was trying to figure out why now i know depending on how they are wired i guess you can 12v high current or 24 for staying power..... on a tin boat i'm sure that 24V will keep you in fishing all day... deppcycle naturally..
