taking my dad fishing. what are some good baits for a newbie like him to catch some bass? He would rather catch a bunch of smaller ones than a few big ones.
     thanks

If he is useing spinning gear it's hard to beat a 1/8 oz. Roadrunner for numbers and will catch just about anything that swims.
I don't mind not knowing all the answers, but I keep forgeting the danged questions.

I would definitely get  a chrome/blue back  lipless crankbait    the strike king red eye shad are good , yo-zuri rattl'N Vibe are GREAT but Little pricey  OR just a Reg Rat-l-trap  just change the hooks to some good super sharp hooks

I agree with what has already been posted, and over the years while fishing for panfish, have caught quite a few bass on Beetle Spins, inline spinners, and small spinner baits.

First it would help tremendously if y'all would put what state you are in!

Second, wacky worm ;)

I have caught more fish by far on a chrome/blue 1/4oz rattletrap than any other lure I have...If you can find a spin trap in same color all the better...spin traps have a small willow leaf spinner in place of back hook and I'm convinced I get more hits on that a regular rattletrap.....I usually change the single hook to a red gamakatsu hook...have caught many good bass in all sizes including several 5 poundsrs and some as small as 6".... ~roflmao

If he's a REAL newbie i would shy away from Senko's.  They can gut hook fish easy if you're not familiar with them.

I would go with a jerkbait/crankbait/spinnerbait.  Very easy techniques, and a wide range of fish options.  I was out yesterday throwin a small little husky jerk and pulled in a 14 in bass... also have caught dinks along with larger blue gill and crappie.   Throw in a 1/4 oz spinner bait and Cotton Cordell shallow runner and you'll catch a range of fish!

I took my dad out a bunch when I lived near my parents but he couldn't use a baitcaster well cause he was a trout man, so I set him up with a spinning outfit some 1/4 oz spinnerbaits, shadraps, and a split shot rig and he caught plenty of nice fish.

For someone that doesn't know how to hook set and is inexperienced at detecting a bite, I'd have to say 3" grubs on ball jigheads; 2" if you're fishing for panfish.  You just need to teach him to cast and crank.

2nd on the 4" Senko. Go with Black and Blue...and watch him smile.

Go Old School..... texas rigged 1/8th oz bullet weight and a 7" Berkley Powerworm Red Shad.
For some stupid reason, I stopped throwing this fish catching setup.....I have caught hundreds of bass using this technique.
1 is luck, but 2 is a pattern!

ShakyHead77

Shaky head!!! 3/16 oz jig head with a zoom trick worm out spiining gear...easiest way to catch fish in my opinion..thats why I love it so much
