Had my first successful attempt at flippin a jig today!  :-*  Little lake near my house i've gotten turned onto by a fellow board member, thanks jocko!  I went out this afternoon with about an hour to kill to practice flippin/pitchin jigs (I SWEAR IM GONNA MASTER THIS TECH!). Having not caught a lot of fish on jigs i have made it my mission to practice this often so when the time comes i am better.  Well i pitched it to the outside of a brush pile, maybe 4 feet of water, just practicing, and sure enough my line started runnin to the side!  Set the hook!  She was a little dink, maybe 1.5 but hey! I haven't even gotten used to what bass biting a jig is like!  Oh well, nothin major, just had me excited haah  lo

Congrats! Still waiting for the ice to clear, only a matter of a few days or so hopefully. I hope to get better with a jig as well  ;D

I'd only comment it's worth sticking with your jig practice. There is no bait as consistent or versatile. One of the things I'm really disappointed in moving to western OK is the lakes just don't have the lily pad beds that our northern lakes do. My all time favorite way to fish is to flip a jig onto the top of a lily and jiggle it on the pad. When there's a bass on the hunt the water will just vibrate under the pad and sliding that jig will result in sometimes scare explosions, sometimes only a "tic". Either way it will result in a hookup and fight with you, fish, and pad stems. I'll miss that.

And it's not just bass, I've caught just every fish I've ever fished for on a jig of one type or another.  ~gf
