Our next tournament is on bistineau next month but we have yet to decide which launch to use. Any suggestions?!? Personaly I prefer Grices by the damn and I know u can launch a big boat out of there. I am open to any suggestions. We should have enough water by tournament time. Thanks John

We, TCTC, have always used Plum Orchard if possible. It's right in the middle of the lake so it offers the best options for everyone no matter where your favorite spot on the lake is. ;)

I launched out of there yesterday with no issues. There are some stumps heading out of the cove, no worse than anywhere else though. Just food for thought John.

I'd personally would favor Plum Orchard...Just more places I fish near there than on the other end and don't want to run further that I have to..

A month could make a difference but I've got word that you can't launch at the State Park with the low water levels at this time.....

Thanks Steve and Scottie.  Plum Orchard is good with me too. Anyone have a problem launching there?

Lawguy513

Wherever we launch from, someone needs to please direct me to a big pile of fish.  I have only fished on B twice in my life... so suggestions are welcome!

Never been on Bistineau Lawguy513, also need to find fish?? :-\ :-\

Go out in the middle of Gregg lake and c-rig a crankbait

Sorry Jim that last post was for lawguy. We will have to get together the week before the tournament and do some prefishing. I grew up fishing out there but it's been about a year since I've made it out there but maybe some of my old holes will still hold fish.

I also need someone to direct me to a pile of fish. Launch doesn't matter to me either because I wouldn't know which one was which or how to get there

Sounds like many of us are newbies to bistineau. Googled Plum orchard plan to let my gps take me there tomorrow.

Guess we will have to make a sight seeing day

Found Bistineau launch this morning about 9:00-12:00, its a challenge for me, but got in and out with some minor problems. Found 12 incher in shallow grass. Little bigger one  in deep brush/logs, still shallow. last fish at noon was 17 1/2 in shallow under logs. Only have to look under a few hundred logs to find fish. Place is sure full of trees, downed timber.
Water was 60-62 deg. little stained from rain Monday.

With the water coming up the fish are really scattered...I was in the Poormans tourney this past Saturday and really had to cover a bunch of water to get a bite....when I slowed down to try to work plastic or jig it took forever to get a bite so just went back to covering water with a spinner...caught 11 total but only 3 on plastic....rest on spinner......nothing large though...a couple of 16" fish were my largest....weighed 9.07 pounds...most of my fish were buck bass also........most all were off trees and out from the bank averaging 4' of water..

Hopefully the lake will continue to rise...we had no problem launching at Plum Orchard but there was little area to actually beach a boat

Lawguy513

Glad to hear that the water level continues to improve.  I had been having some concerns about that.  Scotty, were there any complaints at Poormans about fishing Bistineau?  Any real safety issues?

I heard no complaints about fishing Bistineau...I really believe most enjoyed fishing the lake...I sure did and cause it was so nice out I really didn't want to stop for the weigh-in.. ;D

I will say DO NOT run when you are off the channel.....Lake has plenty of water to fish but not enough depth to run in some of the areas that folks may normally run in....I hit several stumps while idling into the areas I fished but no big problem at all...not as bad as the river for sure..

The only real issue was at the launch site at Plum Orchard as there was very few places to get close enough to the bank to beach a boat due to the shallow water.....Todd released us as we got there so we could get on out to our fishing areas and not have a big ball up at the launch...he just set first cast at 7:00...things went pretty smooth over all for the tournament....I just needed a few bigger fish... :(

Lawguy513

Launched out of Plum Orchard on Saturday, March 26.  Water is a bit low there, so be careful.  I hit a few stumps at the launch coming back in.  Overall, water looks about four feet low.  We were able to run without trouble once we were out of the channel out of Plum Orchard.  Water was dark but clear in many areas.  Wind was blowing pretty hard.  Still, was a nice day to be on the water.

JMGullo

That's all we get?!? No gps cor. To where the fish are?

Lawguy513

If you want, I can give you coordinates to Plum Orchard.  As to the fish, your guess is as good as mine  ;)

Lawguy513

Another storm like that, and there won't be any issues with water depth!

JMGullo

I heard y'all got pounded on. I'm in Houston and all we got was some light stuff. We need all we can get the next two weeks and then stop till after the 23rd.

Hawgwild

Well...this is a bummer...My next three Over 50 tourneys are on the same date as the Broke Sticks.....The Over 50 will also be on Bistineau this month on the 23rd but will be launching out of Griecies....Shouldn't be too bad as we only had 15 boats last tourney....

If I can stay qualified for the Over 50 final I'll skip one tourney and join y'all on Cross in May.....dang I hate these conflicts.. :(

That big downpour we had yesterday should have helped the lake a good bit.

Lawguy513

Scotty, we might be able to work something out since you are fishing the same lake.

JMGullo

There goes my spots. Will probably have 12 of the 15 boats in there. What time do y'all weigh in Scottie

I'm pretty sure it will be a 3:00 weigh in...

And to lawguy..I'll probably just fish the Over 50..it's a singles only tourney...I would really rather be fishing with my son but...this is really the first year we've been able to fish tournaments together and kinda been enjoying that.....poowie..

Anyone make it out this week?!?
