I've never done any trolling motor maintenance beyond removing the prop to make sure there is no line on the prop shaft. What does everyone recommend for preventive maintenance? I would especially like to eliminate noise.
Thank you

Make sure that everything is tight and all the bushings in the joints are in good shape. Not much you can do with the motor itself unless it's older and you can have the bearings and brushes changed out.

I pulled the top of the cover off and applied some new grease to the gear inside (foot operated model).
I also flipped the foot pedal over and oiled the bottom of it as well and the cable itself near the connection
to the pedal.  While I had the top cover off I shot a little WD40 down inside of the shaft also.

Basically any moving part on the pedal or inside the top of the cover I applied a little grease and WD40.
When I first bought my MG it seem like the pedal was hard to push down.  After oiling and greasing I never had any problems with the pedal or lower end of the shaft rotating smoothly.

Make sure the bearings on the shaft are properly greased as well.  You can loosen the bearing housing with a small allen wrench and pack them with grease, then retighten.
The older I get the better I was.........
