Beautiful looking baits that's some work to be proud of. Great detail on the white crappie.

Black Crappie

Marc,
First, I think you do fantastic work ~c~  love both of those...

I do use a bandit crank here that's a crappie pattern with huge success...the thing I like about your bait:  the black head really mimics a prespawn/spawning crappie...and I've had some  huge days tossing a smokey joe rat-l-trap during that time frame...

I like both of them a lot...but love the black crappie pattern ...  let me know which one the fish prefer

Nice work Marc, especially like the black crappie. I'm one of those rare people that if I have black, white or acombination of those I'm good to go.

Love the black crappie!  Great detail on the white.  Fine work.   ~c~  What do you use for a topcoat?

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Dunham, I coat them with a 2 part automotive grade clear

Interesting.  Do you find that keeps it's shine longer than epoxy, or a bar type finish?

Alan Smith

Well I can't really compare the two. I tried epoxy at the beginning and ended up getting away from it because it added weight to the lure and affected the action on some.

The auto clear has a real clean and glossy finish that holds up real well. It's much thinner than epoxy and lets the lure keep its original action. It is dangerous to breathe in when applying, but I have a good respirator for it that I change the filters out each month.

Now those are just plain "woops"y!   ~c~

If you arent already, You should be making custom lures for the pros.  If I were you, I wouldnt hesitate sending some to some of the nicer pros, and start selling them one of a kind patterns.  You would hold the rights of course, and possibly sell the patterns to some of the big lure manufacturers.  You do awesome work, and I bet it would be great for you if you could turn it into big money.  Just a few thoughts.  Jim

Jim, that would be absolute suicide....believe me, pros (not all of them, but most of them)will take these colors to their sponsors and reproduce them....i have painted a bait called "Cash Cow" and not 6 months later, Bandit had "Mad Cow" which was really damn close to what i painted......again, i dont want to open a can of worms here, but there are alot of guys that have been done wrong by the "Pro's" who are invested in their sponsors.  I could go on for days on this, but i'll let this sleeping dog alone.

Marcdvd the black was really my favorite but the detatil I saw in the white just blew me away. I'd throw that black/white one any time especially around the spawn but I think it would catch fish just about any time. As has been said copywrighting you work is the best way to protect it if you wnat to make some money from it. What would it take to get you to part with one of each of those lures. I accept Pm's

I don't think the Bandit Cash Cow looks as good as Jav's.

You could also have the prospective Pro sign a confidentiality document, that prohibits them from even talking about the pattern with anyone.  And It could be actionable if they did.  Honest guys wouldn't have a problem signing.  Its SOP when taking a new idea to anyone to get backing, and financial support.  Jim
