The Nitro is a great boat, but the price you are looking at is nowhere near what you are going to pay by the time you add all of the options that the triton has on it.  The triton is bigger, faster and has a lot more features than the nitro.  When you see the price on the nitro website its for a very basic model.  Put electronics, jackplate, trailer brakes, upgraded trolling motor, max out the HP with a 200 and some other nifty features and you are over 30K

Have to agree with Nate . Get the Triton unless you have to have a brand new boat.

Will this be your first boat? I agree with the other guys that you will get more bang for the buck with the Triton, in this case. But if this is your first boat you might want to consider the warranty and what a dealer can bring to the equation. Just food for thought. ;)

Never thought about that.  As a first boat, the triton may not be your best option.  Its a great boat and better deal, but will be a handful for a beginner.  For a beginner looking to spend that kind of dough a Z7 with 150hp motor, will get you where you need to go safely until you can get some time on the water and the warranty will be a huge plus!

I have a Z-7 with a 175 and love it.  With that said however, as of 2011 it appears the max HP is 150.  May have cut into the Z8 sales or something silly like that.

The Triton sounds good, but get the motor checked by a pro.  Lots of boats for sale in the spring.

which do you like better? no matter the deal if you arent happy you wont like it

Not to get Nitro guys mad, but remember that Nitro is a generic brand, made by BPS.  It will not be equipped with near as good as parts and there will be few nice features.  If you look at a Nitro in a showroom compared to a real brand( Ranger, Skeeter, Triton, etc.) you will be able to tell that they cut corners.  Definitely go with the Triton.

Just priced out a Z7 with HDS 5 and HDS 7 w/struture scan, power pole, and a few other options with a 150 pro xs. Triton is a great boat, however if this is your first boat, you may really think about a warrenty ect. Price for the loaded Z7 was just over 31k for a NEW boat, rigged the way I wanted. You can go lower on that price depending on options. As for price, a lot of new boats with "standard" equipment are the same price if not higher than a rigged out Nitro. Plus the MAN VAN DAM fishes Nitro, and he can fish out of any boat he wants.

The TOON is a better boat: drawback its used.

The Nitro new with warranty + a great warranty from Merc on the engine.

Choice is yours!

I would want the Toon as most given this choice but my logical side would be pushing me to the warranty rig.

You can get a much better rig for 31K if you look around.

We are all different but I don't think you can go wrong with: Legend, Bass Cat, Champion, or Charger.  I guess you can see I am about ride quality!

Say it like it is
Nitro's are junk cheapest boat made
no corner is left uncut
KVD and all the others that run nitro's (let me tell you a secret, their not nitro's) they are specially made boats that can be purchased though someone on the inside
Trust me
So get the triton
Unless of coarse you want the carpet to wear out in a year or two

loomisguy

Nitro had problems back in the early 90's thats old news. But the boats they make now are solid .
Personally I wouldn't pass up a new Z-7 w/ warranty for anything used.

Nitro 06

I don't know my 04 Nitro is a great first boat and the carpet still looks great.

If you buy a Nitro, the warranty is important. You WILL be needing it.

BHubb

Never been in a tri-ton so I don't know how they ride but with all the extra stuff the deal doesn't sound bad but a warranty and NEW boat would push me toward the Nitro.

love2fish07

Nitro is a lot wider boat than triton.  Both are good boats, but can't go wrong with the warranty deal.  I learned the hard way, if you buy a used boat you are buying another mans problems.  just food for thought.

If you are going to spend over $30,000, look arounf the internet at what some skeeter dealers are offering, ZX190 for less than that with warrenty.

First off, the problems Nitro had in previous years is history. They make an outstanding boat now that rivals a lot of boats out there. They are still a little behind the curve on standard features though. And take it from somebody that has been really close to KVD's boat. Its exactly the same as the boat you can buy from the showroom floor.

So, if it were me, I would have to the warranty for piece of mind. I think in the long run, you would be more happy/have less problems that way.

Bassinkorea

Zmanlane, as this is quite an old thread and you haven't replied yet, which boat did you buy in the end????

It's the add on options that gets the price up there quick, of the two that you listed I would go with the Triton due to the options that it has on it but, warranty's sure help one sleep better at night. You can get a new boat with options and warranty in the $30,000 range. It's all about choices that we make and having to live with those choices, think real hard my friend before making a decision.

Warranty is especially important now. We may be facing E-15 ethanol this summer.

I have a Nitro and can't really complain but, I also have a Champion. The Champion is a much better boat in my own opinion. I would check out Bass Cat's Pantera or Sabre line. They are in that price range. The Nitro has a little larger front deck. Bass Cats come standard with hydraulic steering and I like the trailer much better...Not knocking Nitro but you get what you pay for...

I'm with Gdaddy it will only be Legend, Bass Cat, Charger or Stratos Elite for me.

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

To respond to bassinkorea, i got the triton.

KVD uses Nitro because of the $$$$$$$$ Nitro pays him. From the problems I have seen out of Nitro there is no way you can compare the quality to a Triton.

If you think for one second that KVD couldn't fish out of any other boat if he wasn't happy with the performance & quality of Nitro you are mistaken.   ;)

How long does kvd have a nitro for? 6 months max? Then he gets a new boat! So how can you tell if its quality? Any boat will last you the first 6 months with no problems. You cant even compare a pro to someone that fishes everyday. If anything happens to his boat they will give him a new one and wrap it the same and you would never know.
