I am new to Maryland fishing. I grew up in Virginia bass fishing non-tidal rivers and have not gotten used to the whole tide thing. I now live in Odenton MD and am having a hard time finding a good place to bass fish. I have a 16 Alum boat that is easy to get around in the rivers but not real good in the open bay. I thought about fishing some of the lakes around here but they don't want you taking your boat in other waters. Anyone know of a good spot not to far from Odenton where a fellow can catch bass?

Brandy, You can fish the WSSC reservoirs. Rocky Gorge is very close to Odenton and they don't have the restriction about using your boat in other waterways. Now you will have to spend some time getting to know Rocky Gorge, the fish movement corresponds with the seasons of the year- Spring and Fall you can get them in relatively shallow water while in Summer and early winter you need to fish deep- 15 ft +. There are also several other small lakes that you can find out about by checking the Maryland DNR website.

Also,
If you dont mind coming up to Harford county there are plenty of smaller tidal rivers you can fish and not have to worry about the bay. You can launch into Joppa Town on the gunpowder river and catch bass all day. Dont even need to start up your big motor.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a boat launch in Joppa Town that you recommend? I have also heard the WSSC reservoirs hold bass but catching them can be a challange. I will take a ride out there one day and have a look around. Have a blessed day!

Brandy, to follow up on ReservoirRunners comments. As for Rocky Gorge, (which is a hell of a bass fishery!) you have to obtain a daily permit for the day or buy a permit for next year. Also, there is an incredible lake not that far from you in Damascus, MD named Black Hills. Its electric ONLY but you are allowed to take your gas engine in there but you just cant run it. Believe me, you have a ton of options from reservoirs to rivers. All depends on what you want to do....
1 is luck, but 2 is a pattern!

Thanks to all for the replys. Sounds like I have quite a few options to explore. Can't wait till spring to get back out there.
