I live close by the Portage Lakes and watch a lot of weigh ins for tournaments (because I dont have my own boat yet). It gets a lot of fishing pressure because there are a lot of tourneys out there but it still produces all season.
There are two main boat ramps which are located by the main lakes. East Reservoir is down the chain of lakes a little and since it is all no wake getting there, it could take you a while if fishing a tourney. I see a lot of anglers fishing out of Turkeyfoot and a little lake attached to it called Mud Lake. They both have some deeper water. Not sure if the fall pattern has kicked in or not but I know I haven't been catching much from shore like I have been.
Couldnt really tell you a favorite bait or color to use because I know these guys that throw everything at em out here.
I would definitely find some good healthy weeds that are still present. I was wading last week and tangled into some good healthy stuff even though i did hear that they sprayed killer.
Good Luck out there.
