Heya! Sam here coming to you from northern Illinois. I am 17 years old and have been an avid bass fisherman for most of 'em! I usually just fish local ponds or preserve lakes in my area, and have my good/bad days. I have a great family that also love to fish, me and my brother try and get out every weekend and do our best! But I just don't fish, I also enjoy Baseball [GO CUBBIES!] and swimming. Fishing is definately one of my passions and I am glad I found this community!

Hey Jan, heres the deal, you catch em, I will take em off of the hook.  ~shade

The secret is to catch so many of em that I can't get a bait in the water.  ;)

Hi Everyone, my name is Ed  and I live near Boulder CO.  I'm interested in learing about bass fishing; I have a basic light spinning rod, no boat or anything fancy -- just looking to get outdoors, relax, & have a little fun.

There is a 55 acre artificial irrigation reservoir near my house.  It has lots of grass carp and supposedly bass but the bass are pretty hard to find (tho I did catch a very small one once).   The east side of the lake is a rock dam, I'm told there are submerged fish structures that parallel the dam about 65' out from shore in ~20' of water.  The other sides of the lake are very shallow slopes.  I've tried crankbaits (Rapala) and Dardevles without success (they tend to snag on the rocky floor), now I am moving on to plastic worms -- not sure what a good rig for these might be...  Any other thoughts/suggestions that might be good to try?   Thanks!

Ed

PS the lake does have canoes to rent (Fri-Sun, altho not usually when the fish are feeding  :) ), but otherwise no boats or float tubes.

Thanks for telling us a little about yourself Ed - try the following link and ask that question of baits for your fishing situation.  More people will join in on the discussion making for more opinions for you to choose from.  Personally - rocks mean craws, crankbaits, and tubes to me.  Natural greens and browns are colors I'd try first.  CBs - shad and craw colors.  I'm sure you will also see spinnerbait and jig mentioned amongst other baits.

I love to fish and we do fish alot it keeps me from going insane just to have a little something to do.
We have 5 boys but only one still at home he is 14 the oldest is 35 and they like to fish also but not as much as the wife and I.
The task ahead of you is never as great as the Power within you!

Hi everyone, J here originally from Los Angeles but now live in Baltimore, Maryland for school. I'm 24 and have been fishing off and on since the day my mom went into labor with me an hour into a family roadtrip to go fishing.  :) I started off in lakes and dams with my dad and sister and started doing some ocean sport fishing with them everytime I go home for a break in college. Now that I can't go home as often, I started picking up bass fishing on my own for the first time here on the east coast. No real fishing buddies yet cause none of my friends at school like fishing but still looking! Glad to have found this site where people really have a passion for the sport. Hopefully this newbie can learn a thing or two!

Since TopCat is bumping....

Born and raised in north Alabama.  Joined the Air Force after graduating high school and realizing that I did not want to spend my life working in either a mobile home plant, coal mine or log woods.  Spent 14 years in the Security Police (now Security Forces) traveling the world.  Late career change from Security to Computers which moved me back to Alabama.  Retired after 20 years and 5 days and got a job as a contractor working for the Air Force.  Married (second time is the charm), two sons living with the ex-wife in England and two step-daughters who bogart my bathroom every chance they get.  Fish when I can, work when I should.

HOWDY!!  My name is Joe and I live in the South Texas Area.  I really like to fish Choke Caynon Lake and once I get a boat Lake Amistad.  I am currently in the market for a new eighteen foot boat.  I really like the Ranger 188 Intracoastal, but it seemed to be a bit pricy.  One of the main reasons that I am looking at this boat is because my wife likes to fish, but prefers to saltwater fish.  So need I say more.

Welcome to Ultimate Bass Joe,
Make yourself at home and holler if you need help with the site. Good luck gettin that boat. It sounds to me like a bay boat would suit your needs. It would work in salt&fresh water.

Welcome Fisher,

Good luck on the boat. I just moved to Waco area from Central Fl. I have fished alot of both fresh and salt on the other side to the Gulf.

From what I have heard Texas bays are alot like the Florida gulf coast line. Because of that a good bay/reef or flats boat might be the way to go. I do know that you will have to get a bunch miles out to get any depth, then, you will have to look into a deeper draft, but I bet 12in or less draft would be the best all around fishing boat around here.

Good luck, hope you find the boat you are looking for.

Umm ok..   My name is Robert Abbott and I am 38 soon to be 39...  man where do the years go!!!    I have a wife "tonya" and a 14 year old daughter "Brooke"   I moved to Hixson, TN. from Kingsport last year and we are very happy we do so.  My dad was a hunter and fisherman so of course i fallowed him out any chance i could get.  For years I didn't really know what I was doing but I went just so I could hang with my Dad.  About 4 years ago i bought myself a small Tracker boat and really started fishing allot more.  I hated to move away from my Dad and the other fishing partners i had but it was something we had to do.   Now I am trying to learn how to fish the lakes here and have even started to try some new things out but I have so much to learn.   I am also meeting new people all the time and hoping to find a couple guys that i can fish with and have them teach me allot.  Andrew told me that i could find allot of answers on here so that's why I have stopped by.  I may not post allot but trust me i will be reading allot.
