After watching a thread about trailer hooks I decided to try some experiments.  Normally I take a piece of rubber tubing and put it over the eye of a trailer hook and then thread this over the point of the main bait.  The rubber tubing usually does not last very long and needs to be replaced quite often.

Recently I bought some trailer hooks that had a plastic coating covering the eye.  This got me thinking, I use a product called Brush On Liquid Tape sold at most auto parts stores to seal up connections on my boat trailer, bike, and many other things.  Took some plain trailer hooks and dipped the eyes into the Liquid Tape.  After giving them time to dry they turned out almost exactly like the ones I paid a lot more for at the retail fishing store.  Just don't put too much on or it gets difficult to get the point of the main hook through the plastic.

Also tried using shrink tubing over the eyes and that worked well too and was a lot less messy and there is no drying time.  Plus you can get different colors of shrink tubing to add a little color to the bait.
