After two trys and low numbers, lets start tossing around ideas for next year.  That way more people can attend.

I don't know if I will be able to do it next year.  I sould be starting a new job in march and I don't know how much vacation I will have the first year.  And my wife has a family reunion next summer.

Any ideas guys?  Start saving now :-*

Eric and I were talking about this earlier today.  I would like to try a lake and I think we decided there is quiet a few in southern ill that might be good.

Its just a weekend thing so vacation time shouldn't be to hard.  With that fancy new job you should be able to get some vacation worked out.  After all you said its for the same company.

Different company, just same job site.  It would put me back to working weekends ~b~

Shelbyville was all good.  Plenty of bass even for guys that don't know how to lake fish :help:

Regurgitated from the 2010 post............

"Well..... I have always wanted to go way south in IL and fish around Carbondale.  They have Crab Orchard, Cedar Lake, Little Grassy, Devils Kitchen and Lake Of Egypt all within a stones throw of one another.  Thats probably way too far for most of the people on here though..... I will get down there someday soon........"

looking at some illinois lakes.  I think lake clinton, lake shelbyville and carlyle resevoir all lake like they could be good fishing and 5hr drive to the farthest.  Farther than I really want to drive, but they look like good places and I will probably make the drive.

Springfield looks better than it fishes.  I have been there a couple times and it has fish, but they are hard to come by.

What about Mark Twain lake in Mo.  Its not to far from some of those other lakes.

I can but don't really want to make a 6-7hr drive one way.  4 or 5 I can do and I believe I checked out mark twaiin and it was 6-7 from here.  If we get enough interest in it though I can probably make it, so it can be an option.

What about polls 9,10 or 11 of the O'le Miss. Great fishing, however they are full of Tx. Camping everywhere, Hotels as well. Cabellas. Good Food. However Mo. does have many good fishing lakes as well. Most of the places mentioned here so far are 4-6 hours for me. Means Vac. However, that is what vac. is for.

I'd like to hit a lake myself, something with some structure, not just weed beds. I get to fish weed beds all the time here, they're nice but get old after a while. Keeping a river out of the mix we won't have to worry much about current, high water, and mud.

I hear that.  I'm not much of a structure fisherman but would like to learn more about it.

ok well,  Rathbun lake is an option, which is about 4 hrs for me, but closer to 5 or 6 from where Eric is.  I google mapped Mark twain lake.  4hrs 13 min for me and 4hrs 40 min from Eric, and a Dave so that might be a good meeting location for everybody.  Its a pretty good drive, but with work I can take vacation on thurs and automatically get fri off or just get fri off for free.  I'd love to fish it.  One of my concerns is the boat traffic.  Is it going to turn into a huge party lake in the middle of the summer?  Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a bunch of girls in bikinis running around, but in the middle of summer its going to be an offshore game and its going to be nuts I think.  My suggestion is we go in the spring and catch some pigs in the shallows!!

Just talked to a friend of mine down there.  That said fishing can be tough in mid summer.  So if we choose mark twain.  I think spring or fall would be better.  He said he really likes it in mid sept when the bass start moving up into the creeks and chasing shad.

I will keep watching this thread to see where you are going. Mike has promised to get me out of the house a little more often. Since the grandbaby is in the house with us full time I sure do need the break  ~roflmao

Maybe this wll fall on one of the times that we can make a break for it...

Has anyone put anymore thoughts into this or has it died off?   I am planning on a trip to Lake Fork  in April again in 11'.  I have some online friends that I race with and we try to meet up yearly for this.  This will be the third time as healthy and personal issues killed it one year.    And bed fishing on fork is awesome hehe.    Now back to this... no offense but I like the dale hollow comment lol.  But I am willing to put in a nice drive some where as I have fri and sat off and will just forfiet sunday work lol.   So lakes down south around carbondale is awesome.

DBrooke

It's not died off, just a long way out still. Hopefully we can get more boats in next year. I'm all for it.
