I've caught several over eight pounds (just never in a tournament  ) jigs work well, zoom ole monsters, and any kind of punching bait for grass mats. My favorite punch bait is probably the zoom super hog.

Biggest bass 9.42 off a beaver type bait with a 3/4 ounce weight pitched next to a dock on Toledo, took a 9.11 off Bistineau this year also off a dock with a jig, took a 7.42 off a dock on Bist last year with a brush hog, have taken a lot of bass over 6 on different lures, some that come to mind off the bat are a 6.82 off Red River with a crankbait, two over 6 on the same day off Caddo lake on a worm, 5 off Cypress over 6 one on a brush hog, two on a vibrashock one on a jig and one on a spinnerbait, took another over 6 off Cross on a lizard sooooooooooo not sure it's the lure as it is the location and timing.

All my fish over 5 lbs this Year have came on 1/2 and 3/4 oz vibrashocks.  Couple of 4's on jigs and a couple on 10in worms, But the vibrashock has outproduced everything for big fish the last 3 years. OOPS I forgot, I did have a 5.5 on Fork on a W/R beaver flipping docks.

Beleive it or not I caught a 9.7 on Stillhouse Hollow on a little Manns worm hooked on a dropshot tied above a Carolina rig. I finally gave up fishing that because it was so bad to tangle.

The premise in the question seems a bit flawed... I have caught 6+'s on spinnerbaits, buzz baits, cranks, tubes, beavers and creature baits.  Big fish will eat the same thing that smaller ones will.  The question to me seems to be to find where they are, and then find what their mood at the time is.

All came on a rattletrap. Day i caught the 9.8 i had 6 over slots smallest was 4.5lbs. Had one hit it and rip drag and chased down with boat and came off

I am on 43 bass over 8 (10.49 - 8.01 lbs) (three this year)and the best producer for me through out the years has been the Jig and Craw Worm and a Creature bait.......5 fish from 8+ up to 9.20 have been on a spinnerbait.  I have won more tournamnets on a spinnerbait than any other bait.
