I've heard some speculations, but does anybody really know where he was? I've heard somewhere around Cash Point and then I heard somewhere up 12 mile.......does anybody actually know?

Zook The Spook

jungle, 12 mile bayou, caspiana, and port lake.....he was all over t he place fished a different hole everyday

SKEETER190

I helped work the weigh-ins and he told us ( workers ) that he went North everyday up to a large Oxbow up around Cash Point Landing. If you would like to read the story go to BASSMASTER.COM and go to the open tournaments pages and click on Cenrtal open 2. He found this spot when he was here back in Febuary when he was pre fishing for the FLW tournament that was cancelled.  This was my first time to get to help with a weigh-in and it was a blast getting to meet these guys and gals.

No one will ever really know where and what and how...and if you did you couldnt duplicate the pattern...

Look north of Cash point across from Hurricane bluff.  ;)

I grew up duck hunting that area of the river and have fished alot of the oxbows north of shreveport, I'm not sure for a fact but i feel the only one you can get into with the water level where it is at is the ol 7 mile lake aka old dixie oxbow...it's tough to get into this time of year but is the only one up that way you can get into all year around.... lots of willow trees on the banks but not much structure unless the river is really high... i heard from a few farmers up there that there was a big boat in it the day of the tournment...... Don't know if it was him for sure though......

His 3 coanglers know exactly where it is and it's not hard to pitch a beaver.  lo

I know the area he went to catch his fish only because I grew up fishing that area for catfish. Why would you want to duplicate his or anyone elses pattern, develop your own.

Beagle

I heard it was up 12 mile. He was getting a flying start and jumping the Caddo dam. I agree with Todd. I would like to add, IT'S THE RIVER. That spot and pattern has changed umpteen times since then. He just did his homework for that particular tournament.

got a guy who's pretty good in our club...usually finishes 1st or 2nd....occasionally 3-5... he's made a living on certain spots on the lakes...couple times the 'rest' of us have gotten together and kept him off 'his' spots...by getting there first...

he just finds other spots and hammers the bass there.  And 'us' guys fishing 'his' better spots?  we don't do as well...

I really really believe it's the angler much much more than the 'spot'...  now, understanding 'why' those fish were there...and how those fish move in/out seasonally?  that info is priceless..

There is fish all over that River, BUT, What brauer gained by running up there is NO competition.  Those fish aren't getting hammered as hard and are not as educated.  he put in the time to figure out how to run the river north of 220 and it paid off.  When you are the only guy fishing in an oxbow that size you definately give yourself an advantage.  ~gf

Gentlemen, I wasn't asking so that I could go up there and duplicate anything - I'm not even in the same league as these guys - I'm basically wondering where in the world would a guy fish in pool five that you guys haven't beat to death - and why isn't it being fished, by guys that are in the know.....I am a local and I'm amazed that some outsider can come down here and get in a oxbow that nobody has much information on - that's my deal......And one of you brought up an interesting point - WHY was the fish in there?  I just didn't know there was water I could actually get into up that far - I'm new to this stuff........ ~shhh

Looking at the sat image the river has to be high to get in there, and needs to be high just  to get up there with your Lower unit in one peice.

OK, which one of you guys tried running up past Cash Point today?  I got a call, while I was in a meeting in Natchitoches, from BPSO Marine Unit to borrow a shovel...seems a 21 foot bass boat with a 250 hp motor was stuck on a sandbar really bad, to the point where they were going to have to dig him out!   ~roflmao

good points sackett...

as for pro's being able to 'showcase' the potential of a given body of water:  it happens a lot at a lot of different venues...

new guys...very good new guys bring new approaches, fish different waters differently...and find overlooked fish...

I have run north of the 220 bridge a few times, not to go fishing, but just to cruise the river in a different direction.  Very minimal boat traffic, and felt uncomfortable because I was not aware of how safe it was to run.  Haven't been up that way now in over 2 years.  The Red has a way of remaking itself with big floods, and we have had a few since I was last up that way.  It is a long run even from the public launches, but even more so from RRS.

BIG PAPA

Trey and I tried running up there, we put in a Cash poit and proceeded to stay hung up on sandbars for 4 or 5 hours it is extremely haxardous up there. Ended up having 1500 dollars damage to my engine with all the sand. Brauer spent an entire day mapping the sandbars and then used his gps to run during the tournament.
I wish anyone good luck running up there. You cannot even get in the oxbow now if you could actually get there. If I were going to try it would be in an alumunium boat that I could drag off of the sandbars.

james john

He said at the last weigh in, That he stayed stuck an hour and a half the first day resulting in his low weight lo. Guys that river is very bad. Lots of sandbars and oh the only way in there is for river to be up. No way with it down cause he barely got in last day he said!!  Ive been in there years ago. Lots of trout lines!!!!

just has to be fish somewhere between where you launch and the honey-hole brauer fished...????? ...seems to  me.

Sometimes these extreme measures pay off. I remember when Randy Blauket called Ranger and asked them how much his boat would sink if he pulled the plug. The gave him the answer he needed and he pulled his plug allowing him the clearance needed to get under a bridge. He won that tournament. It's amazing what these guys will do to get the advantage.

No that takes the cake - PULLING THE PLUG - WOW! :-\

Beagle

I watched an old show where Roland martin pulled the plug for the same reason. Pretty cool.

Wow!  I'm glad I'm not fishing in your club.  Sounds like the "rest" of you are real stand up guys.

Kuntry Jr.

If your wanting to go into it your going to have to look very very very hard to find it. The opening is about a boat length wide and is riddled with fallen in trees, very camouflaged ;) but there is no fish in there ::)
