When I bought my Bullet 20XD is has a 27p Hoss Chopper Prop will run about 85-87 with light load but slips through hole shot.  Prop sits on shaft washer and exhaust comes over prop instead of through port.  Wanted to run 25p normal stainless prop to see if hole shot gets better.  When tried to replace prop it would not fit due to a stainless steel ring on lower unit that will not allow normal prop to slip inside lower unit when tighten down (by about 1/16").  Anybody run into this before.

I tried to put a Fury 25p on my Merc 200 Opti, but it didn't fit... must have been a Yamaha hub or something.

Sounds like you need a different thrust washer, prop probably needs to be pushed back a bit.

What kind of motor?
Sorry, I guess that is important info, its a 225 Mariner Super Mag.  The hub will not slip down into lower unit housing.  I know the new prop is for a Merc/Mariner, but there seems to be a aluminum ring around the lower unit housing that prevents it.

I'm not very familar with the 'super mag' does that have a high performance lower unit? You would think a trophy, tempest, or fury would slip right on.

This ring, is it below the threads on the shaft? Just wondering if there wasn't something special done so the chopper could be run and/or if this ring is just a washer that is jammed and needs removed so a standard washer can be used?

Is there a way you can get a photo?

Its not the washer below the splines on the shaft its actually mounted to the lower unit housing

It does have the high performance lower unit.  The chopper prop sits right on the washer at the base of the splined shaft and has no hub to slip inside the lower unit housing.  The power tech prop has the std. hub config. and the 1/2 inch reduced part of prop that usually slips into housing is blocked from slipping into housing and resting on shaft washer by this ring mounted to the lower unit housing.  Pictures are a good idea and I will take with both props and post after court this afternoon.

Okay I wasn't thinking correctly  ~b~ it's early...

On the Mariner I had (10 years ago) that ring was removable. If it's aluminum and not cast as part of the housing you should be able to pull it out. Can you get a small mirror in behind it to see if it is sitting on a lip that is part of the housing? If it is, you may need a slide hammer to help break it loose. But I'd want to make sure I was positive that it wasn't part of the cast before I went beating on it.

You have to remove the hub that is in the prop and use the one off your motor. That's assuming the hub in the prop is not for your motor, which it must not be if it didn't fit. BassBuff and I went through this when he used my Fury on his Opti. We had to take my solid Pro XS hub out and put his FloTorque in.

u are correct Jason. I think Michael took the hub sleeve off with his prop and sent it in for work. I got him a 25 Fury to use until he got his prop back but the sleeve inside the hub I gave him fits my Yamaha. He needed his sleeve to make the fury work which I thought he would have kept his sleeve and just sent his prop in for work.

Sometimes the FloTQ is hard to get out. I've had to break them out before. If you don't remove and grease it often, it can be a pain.

When I took my Tempist in to have it reworked, I never thought about taking the hub out.  If this ever happens again, you can bet I will!

BassBUFF

Jason you are right about the hub. But i believe Cork got this one right. I thought he was talking about the outer ring on the case and it may be removable on that motor.

Yea, I was refering to Lawguy's problem. I wasn't to sure on Judges, so I steered clear until pics where posted. lo

Judge

Tried to upload pics to better explain issue.  Said file was to large.  Someone explain how to accomplish this

beast96z

Judge, go to the pic on your computer. Right click on it and there should be the option to "resize image". Resize it to the mid size option and try again. If you don't get the "resize image" in your right click, go to google and type in microsoft image resizer. It should take you to microsoft's site where you can download it for free.

You could have a CLE, Torquemaster, sportsmaster, or A coned version of any of them.  You have a Merc Racing motor. A super mag is basically a Pro Max.  Very fast motors.
