just sent the $$$ to BPS...bought my SideScan module for the HD sonar/GPS that I picked up last summer.

I'm going to have THE most tricked out, hi-tech floating aluminum 'stock tank' in my local waters.  Now, if only it'd make me a better angler    ~roflmao

Man I just haven't got the funds set aside yet to get it.... I want it bad..... but the Grand Baby keeps asking for things and it is hard to say no :surrender:

If anyone else wants one (Lowrance sidescan module), order it from Cabela's online.  At BPS I was on a waiting list, they said to go order it online, those online orders get filled first ahead of the store waiting list.  I tried that, and it was still backordered.  Monday, one of the guys at BPS said to try Cabelas instead, they seem to get more units than BPS does.  I went online, and sure enough they had them in stock and it will be here later today or at worst Monday.  Gonna be selling my huminbird 797si when I get it swapped out....

~c~ Glad you pulled the trigger. Looks as though you still have time to sit in the house and look at it.  lo  I'm about to start our club tx's for the new year so i'm hoping that mine will lend me a hand in catching some fish. 8)

yes...unfortunately I still have time... ~rant  something about more than a foot of snow on the ground, more to come...and worse...couple of days from now the forecase high will be -2degrees F...(yes, the HIGH will be below zero)...

my tournaments don't actually start until late April here...about a month after ice out...so I'm hoping to get a couple of trips in ahead to use this technology on a couple of the early lakes...

if nothing else, it'll be very entertaining running around the lakes getting a new look at them...

Well, it's pretty cold here for La. but i'm glad i'm not where you are.  lo

Take this from experience, make sure you have plenty of gas, cause you will not have any left at the end of the joy ride. lo

I know of what you say...I already have this problem with just my normal Lowrance.  I am continually amazed at how much key structural (bottom contour) components exist in lakes that even the best maps just don't identify...

I find that if I really want to get to know a lake, I have to spend the time conducting a good search pattern and focussing on the screen.  It gets even harder in shallower lakes since the 'cone' covers such a small area...

but it's time well-spent.

I expect I'll be able to find more of these 'differences' much quicker with the sidescan...

Could one of you guys explain something for me?? My buddy is looking into buying a HDS and the LSS 1. He wants to know what the difference is in specs, directly from their website:

Power output: Max 250W peak to peak actual (31 RMS) 30000W peak to peak analog equivalent

compared to a humminbird: 1000W RMS, 8000W peak to peak

We both really don't know much about these things. Mainly what is the difference between actual RMS and peak to peak analog. Any help is very appreciated!!!

I of no help to answer that cause i don't know. But i do know that the HDS unit and LSS is a pretty awsome setup.  ;D

coldfront

don't know that I'm smart enough to get you the answer you seek...but I do know of someone who is...  http://www.hightechfishing.com/home.html

check out Doc...maybe drop him an email with your question.

It's pretty cold up here right now...don't think he's going to be 'in a boat' anytime soon...

here's the story:
Ordered the LSS-1 unite online from BPS Dec 31, 2090.  Product shipped the following Monday Jan 4, 2010...shipped ground FedEx...
know there's been a lot of discussion about the horrors and wait lists involved with this technology...I may well have gotten lucky...but that wasn't my experience.

Here's the tracking info from FedEx:

So it looks like you going to be getting it soon. ~c~ Those big box stores like BPS, Cablea's, etc. probably have larger orders than the mom and pop places. BPS in Bossier City, La had only gotten a few units in since it was released. I think one will have better luck getting it from their local marine stores or some of the board sponsors.

coldfront

quick update.
Box arrived at the house yesterday...would have been earlier...but weather apparently hit Fed Ex a little harder than they expected.   And since it wasn't an 'express' delivery it didn't get here as quickly as it could have...

Still, it's now in the house...install will proceed...and man am I looking forward to this spring and ice out...gonna get a new 'warm suit' (so I can run around in 40°F weather rain, wind or shine and stay warm while looking at lakes)...

Lots to do...and only about 60-70 days now until ice out...

fishin couillon

~c~ Glad you got the box. Now you can sit there look at it wishing you could use it. lo I havent used mine in over a month. My first club tx is Feb. 6 so i'm hoping that my SS will come in handy for me.  :)

my guess is that this technology will do two main things for me...
1.  allow my practice/tournament prep exploration to procede much quicker and much more efficiently in terms of how I use my time.
2.  with regard to being able to identify areas that I really want to saturate with my survey work, it'll help...an let me make astute judgements on how 'dense' to develop durvey data for big expanses of flats...

I really don't expect to use this much in actual tournaments.  Meaning I had better know what my plan is before the starting gun...     ;)

I'm on the same page with you. You can waste some valuable time riding around looking. I'll try to do more prefishing this year. You know some people just have to work.   ;)

On the other hand i udated my LSS box to be removable when i'm not using or on the road traveling. It works out pretty good.

CF-If it were plugged in right now I bet you could use it just from all the drool on the box... ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao
