nitro pull handles for storage

ANyone had to replace their cloth handles on the storage comparments? Not sure if I should just make my own, or if there are any sold anywhere?

Yep with my 640 they didn't last due to getting wet and drying out over and over and the sun down here took it's toll on them.

Anyway I brought a long dog leash and cut it in strips, backed out the screw holding in the old loop and used the leash as replacements. Need to get a wide but thin leash if you do this or the lids won't close because once you double it over to make a loop it will be very think and bind the lids.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try something here pretty soon. The lids do close pretty tight. Maybe I'll go check out a fabric store. They might have some denim or something like that that matches the grey carpet.

I wouldn't use denim. The sun and rain will break that down pretty quick and it's going to tear loose too. Then again, unless you fold it several times and sew it into straps, it's probably not going to hold up well either. It's just not heavy enough.

Most hardware stores sells nylon webbing on rolls, by the foot in several colors, widths and thicknesses. I think I'd just opt for the black webbing. Just don't forget to heat seal the cut ends or it will end up fraying. You can do this with a soldering iron or simpy use a flame from a candle or lighter.

Went to a fabric store, and found some nylon strips, and it was $1.49 for a yard. That's all I needed, perfect.

I know this is an old post but I used a dog leash cut in strips and doubled over for mine as well. Works better than the nitro stock loops.

Even though this is an old post I just came across it.
After replacing the pull straps twice I bought plastic flush mount handles from BPS for $4.00 each and am in the process of putting them on. It requires a 2 1/2" clearance hole and 4 mounting holes. they should last longer than the straps.
It's suprising the Nitro X5 has the straps instead of handles.

It's much quicker and definitely cheaper just to put nylon pull straps on, so it doesn't surprise me that Nitro wouldn't put recessed pull handles on their boats.

Why would they spend $2 per compartment lid when they can spend $0.20?

Mine has those, in fact it has 5 on the back deck and 5 on the front deck and one for the cooler lid in the floor it's just Nitros have such a large fishing area the lids are so big they thought it would be nice to add a couple $0.20 pull straps to each lid so your co-angler can help open them up.
