This is a cheap simple tip to help everyone.

I always carry a couple extra walmart plastic sacks in my truck for various things.
Try this the next time you hit a public place. How many times have you been fishing and seen a beer bottle or trash that someone left on the bank? Instead of ignoring it take a little plastic sack with you and pick some trash up and dispose of it properly when you leave.
remember these are public places to fish are a privilege. Not something they have to let us do. help keep a good image. think to yourself. would you wanna bring your family to this place?

Mohunter great tip!!!! Myself do that a lot and belive it or not thats the ONLY reason i can fish in one local farmers ponds today, when i went and ask if i could fish his ponds this is the answer i got, Frank i have not let ANYONE in ponds in 20 years but Iam going to let you fish them just because i remember when your dad and you came here when you was a kid the banks of my ponds would be trash free after yall left. So doing a lil to help a place stay clean can to a lot for you in the future even if you dont see it at that moment.

I wish the fishermen in Korea felt the same way as you guys, there is always tons of trash laying around the the banks, and most of it is left there by the carp and bass fishermen....it's really sad  :( :(

I had a similar experience years ago fishing at a small resevoir with very little public access. The fishing was slow that day and so I took out a garbage bag and started to pick up all of the other junk that was left behind by others. In no time at all I had a pretty full bag so I headed back to my car to toss it in the trunk only to be cut off by an Waterways Conservation Officer and a rather irate homeowner that read me the riot act about dumping garbage. After that rant, I calmly opened the bag and showed them what I had picked up....The ususal worm containers, beer cans, hook boxes, line, etc. After a big apology and thanks from both, I now have several nice parking spots with easy access to the lake. Nice tradeoff for a few minutes of my time. ;D

Thanks for the stories guys. its stories like this that may change that one persons mind so they stop and take a second before they throw something down, or pick something up to help out.

I think if every one spent 5 min every time they went fishing it could make such a difference on our waterways. It seems like every other time I go fishing I end up catching what seems like 1000 yards of some lazy fishermans line that they just threw in the water. Which is why I take my prop off every other time I go fishing so I can check for line tangled in it.. LETS ALL DO OUR PART AND CONSERVE WHAT WE LOVE

usually the more serious fisherman like myself and most people on this site clean up after ourselves and other because we have a respect for the places we fish in i fish on land literally across the way from a lake sheriif office where they take all the drunk people off the lake at and i always clean it its just respectful to not trash the place they let you fish
give a man a fish he eats for a day. But you teach a man to fish and his wife wont see him again.

Here is the proof. I am now the only one allowed to fish this pond. and its because the first time i went out there i ended up picking up others trash and they gave me exclusive rights to it.
