Hello to the group.

I have recently purchased a used boat. 97 DC Stratos 195 ProXL (Excellent Condition)
The fellow whom I purchased the boat from had a new Lowrance HD7 mounted next to the console.
He did not let the HD7 go with the boat, but the wiring being threw the hull still remains, with the ball mount.
So the wiring is still there, and I want a unit that can use the same wiring but do not know what units out there will work with the current wiring. I can not afford a new HD unit, and this is why I am looking for something a little cheaper. If you know what will work, please let me know.

Thanks,
Kyp

when it comes to this question, I'm not necessarily the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think the keys here are this:

Old units = blue
New units = red

So, if the guy 'left' the wiring (transducer? still in place) then all you may need to do is put a 'legacy unit' on the console and purchase the appropriate male/female red/blue adapters...

BassBUFF

Correct! Lowrance makes adapters so any Lowrance product should work. You can probaly still find some 520c's on close out if you look around the internet. Academy might still have a few too.

Kyp

So any Lowrance unit will work using the adapters?

When you say blue connectors, there are the power cable, transducer and network cable. At this point i'm assuming there is no network on boat if so then there would be 3 cables there. If just two no network. The LCX/LMS units use the blue end cables. Red as mentioned above is for the network cables. That would be the LMS 500 series units and the LCX units, ie 27C, 28 HD, etc.

Kyp

There was no network installed on the boat.

Just the Lowrance HDS7 at the console.
Power & transducer wires only. Both connectors are blue.

Im ready to go fishing, been out here in the gulf for 12 days, 2 more to go.
I do fish here in the gulf, but its not like fishing around the house... ~sun ~c~
Thanks,
Kyp

Ok, no network then don't worry about that "red" color. Like posted above my last post yesterday, those are the units that you can get with out having to replace everything. What were you looking for, sonar only, sonar/gps, color, monochrome, etc? I'll repeat the list that the are compatible with.

Compatible With: HDS-10, HDS-5, HDS-5x, HDS-7, HDS-8, LCX-110C, LCX-111C HD, LCX-112C, LCX-113C HD, LCX-17M, LCX-20C, LCX-25C, LCX-26C HD, LCX-27C, LCX-28C HD, LCX-37C, LCX-38C HD, LMS-330C, LMS-332C, LMS-334C iGPS, LMS-480, LMS-520C, LMS-522C iGPS, X100C, X102C, X125, X135, X510C, X-510C, X52

Kyp

Not sure what I want. I can't justify paying $1000.00 for a fish finder.
Color or not makes no difference.
GPS/SONAR something I can plot tracks to get me back to the honey hole when i find it,
also the basic functions of the unit i.e. depth, temp.

I have the Lowrance X25 on the bow, also one mounted on the console (not connected)

Thanks for the quick reply....

I thought that at first but then as i started using them, they can do alot of stuff. Of course it just a hobby that cost lots of money. lo I guess start off with your budget ($$$). Then go from there. The basic black/white GPS/sonar combo is the LMS480. Then the next one is the colored LMS520C. Both have the 5" screen but are now considered Low's legacy units. They have shifted production to the HDS units. You can still find them used or new. Just have to look. The other basic sonar are the X96, X125 & X135. So i guess it goes back to what you want to spend. For the X25, is that a 7" screen (LCX25C)?

Kyp

X-25B Factory installed unit.

Guess you're right. It's all about what I want to spend.

I work on an oil platform and I see all these different rigs that come out here. Looks like they have spent a lot of money on those units.

Well I just guess I will start out with a basic unit like the LMS480 / LMS522C (Internal Antenna?)

Thanks for the info.

what i did was got a   plain color unit and a hand held gps ..best thing i could of done and cheapest too...
drive by gps and carry it to the front of the boat and use it to stay on my mark while fishing
best of both worlds and have less than 600 bucks invested

Kyp

I may look into that option.
Thanks for the idea.

If your choices are out the 480/522, i would go with the 522. But if you plan on mounting it flush then there are some antenna reception problems. That would be the only thing. Of course the 480 would need an external antenna.

Kyp

BTW.
You are in Pineville.
I am in Cenla also, 20 minutes away. Maybe see you at the fishing hole? Woodson's Landing?

Phil's landing is Red's. I used to call it that. Normally i just say cross bayou landing. I'll be out there this winter for sure.

Kyp

Went to Woodson's on Saturday.
We did get wet, but we caught a few keepers..
