I like trilene xt lo vis green in most situations from 2lb to 25 lb. test.

For trout fishing those clear streams in sothern missouri try 2 or 4 lb. lo vis trilene xt ...this has worked well for me for over 20 years.

On the Mississippi or Kaskaskia rivers I like to have a couple of rods tied on with 25 or 30 lb big game line and I throw crank baits thru the limbs, trees , beaver houses, etc. ..when it gets hung up you can usually pull them out by bending the hooks...lose less lures doing this too!

Lip pestered me into posting  :roll2: :roll2: :roll2:

Anyhow.........................

I am a huge fan of Berkely Big Game.  I use anything from the 8 lb. test up to the 20lb. test.  I use it for almost any type of fishing.

Broke off maybe 6 times over the past 10+ years and most of that was texas rigging.

I just love it.

Basser

When bass fishing in lakes I generally use 6 or 8 lb test on my spinning reels ..and I usually throw cintipede or 4" worm on this rig.

My next favorite line is

Triple Fish 4lb. test.  I use it for Crappie fishing.  It is tough as nails.  I fish it around pylons and don't change it enough so I know.

Basser

I tried spider wire a few years ago on a couple of different reels and I hated it ..it knotted up easily (backlashes)..and I thought it frayed easily ..and it was to visible for the fish too!

I like Fireline for braid.

It was the first and I kinda just grew to likin' it.

I have spinning reels, so the twisting and line memory of mono drove me crazy.  I'm using Stren Super Braid in 8lb on my ultralight reel since it has a 2lb dia.  So far I've been happy with it.

I'm using Berkley Fireline in 20lb test on another reel.  Every now and then too much will slip off the reel during a cast, but it's easily pulled back in.  Turns the fingers black when your putting tension on it while filling the reel though.

I did have a lure get snagged and the knot let go on my Fireline reel.  I was using a Palomar knot and had retied that afternoon.  It's the only braided line that has let go on me.  Lost a very productive Yo-Zuri Dino Vib lipless crank bait because of it too!    >:(

I have 12lb Spiderline Fusion loaded on my main spinning reel.  No ine memory and it seems to hold a Palomar knot very well.

Oh yeah, I use Palomar knots with all the braided lines.

I think I still like the old Spiderline original braided line the best.  I have 30lb test on spinning reel and it's never knotted, bird's nested, or slipped on me yet.  Still have to use the Palomar knot though.

Spiderwire Stealth has been my favorite line for most applications. I solved the knot problem using a Palomar knot then melting the tag end into a button. Be sure to hold the knot between fingers to protect it from heat. The line is ignited and allowed to burn down like a fuse creating very little heat. I've never had that knot fail. There is no way that button will slip through the knot.

Except for big game fish like large stripers I fill the reel spool half full regardless of type of line. That gets two fillings per 150 yd supply and eliminates most backlashes and most memory problems. It also reduces thin diameter line digging into deeper layers of line.

Thanks for the tip Ouachita.  I also have SW Stealth on a spool and have been using it for a couple of months.  I haven't had a regular Palomar knot pull out on the Stealth, but I'll definitey try that when I tye on my old Pflueger Palomine.  Don't want to lose that lure, but I love to fish with it!

On days when a thin carbon line is too hard to watch due to waves, ripples, or angle of the sun I go to Berkley Vanish Transition. I realize a bunch of folks here hate that line, but if you'll spool up half full it's much more manageable.

The knot needs to be an improved clinch knot or similar to provide plenty of wraps around the main line which helps with the breakage problem.

For most applications, Triplefish X-rated copolymer line in various
tests is hard to beat. Good knot strength, abrasive resistance,
small diameter, low stretch.

Ouachita

Trolling for stripers I use Trilene Big Game mono. It's tough, shock resistant, abrasion resistant and bulk spools are usually available locally in a pinch, keeping the cost down. I use a Palomar knot with it. It's not a good casting line, too stiff.

Jim

Ouachita

Shakespeare Supreme Super Tough is another one I don't like for casting except with heavy lures, over 3/4 oz. It's good for jigging with a flippin rod close to the boat around rocks and woody cover, but terrible for pitching and casting the average weight lure. I'm trying to get the most out of it since I was given 3 bulk spools and bought 6 more for $1 each at a baitshop closeout. It'll do fine for trolling and fishing live shad for stripers and hybrids.

Jim

Ouachita

I like Stren Super Braid in low vis green 50# for flippin in heavy vegetation, much the same stuff as Spiderwire Stealth.

Probably my favorite casting line is Trilene XL with practically no memory. A full spool will get you mega backlashes as the line is really limp, so again, fill half full. I go to that for 6# light lure presentations using a spinning rod & reel fishing in clean open water. The 10# line is good for skipping jigs under docks and for pitching into distant pockets. It doesn't work well in wind, the line too limp, caught in the wind and carried around like a spider web.

I totally dislike Daiwa Triforce, handling like metal wire, way too stiff even with 10# test. It has high memory from storage on a reel, but eventually smoothes out when casting. I just don't have patience to let it limber up with use. Backlashes were common even half filled, requiring a very deliberate, follow-through cast each time. I couldn't find a good use for it. When retrieving a topwater lure that glides each time I stopped the rod the line tended to loosen up and coil up as the line went slack, the beginnings of a backlash even when not casting. It was on some shelves around here a while, but can't be found now, so I suppose repeat sales were very low.
