I like Berkely fireline in smoke in 12 pound test. I like the sensitivity and strength that it gives me in those light strike modes.  Havent really decided which knot was my favorite yet though.

mgd0702

I usually dont like Stren lines.  It has always seemed to me like they have lots of memory and I seem to break knots more often that when using other lines.  I have buddies that swear by it but its just not right for me.  I have thrown the 12 and 14 pound in green and clear.

I agree with Kal-Kevin Im 100percent Stren man 6-12lb test. I prefer fluro in summertime cause I fish a lot of night tournments and it lights up great with black lights. I use Lo-vis green in early spring and fall because it is nearly invisible. I never have any problems with the line breaking if a good knot is tied.

When catching chum and king salmon in Alaska I decided to not use a special leader and used 12 pound trilene for my leader.  Worked great and had very little breakage.  I used clear and it seemed to be very invisible to the fish.

For flipping into extreme heavy cover I like to throw a spider-wire in 20-30 pound line.  This seems to be able to really haul a fish out of the thick stuff with enough back bone to be able to turn him when headed back in for a second go.

mgd0702

I usually use trilene 12 pound line extra tough or smooth casting on most of my reels.  This line seems to work better for me then others I have tried.  For what I mainly do this is the best all purpose line for the type of cover, water clarity, and lures that I fish.

When fishing shake heads on light spinning gear I will usually use trilene 6 pound in green.  This seems to have enough strength to get a good hook set at long distances and can have the power to move the fish from rocks if needed.

I personally am one person that hates braided line, and I mean any of it. I think it stinks in every way. Most knots wont hold, you cant break it if you get snagged, and it is harder to cast for me. If im flipping or pitching in heavy cover I just go with a little heavier mono. and havent had any problems for fifteen years.

Trilene is the worst thing I have ever spent my money on. It will break or frey if a skeeter lands on it. I bought one spool and it was terrible. I bought a second just in case the first was a bad spool and had the same results. I will never even let someone in my boat that uses trilene unless its Hank Parker or Tim Horton then maybe I can convert them.

I've been using TripleFish Rx on my spinning reels for several years. It's thin
diameter and low stretch are real assets. I especially like the 10lb & 12lb test.

Hey guys

I use 8lb-10lb flame green fireline.  Just love it, especially after a couple of sessions when it's become nice and supple.  Nice and easy to see as well.  I use the seven twist surgeons knot to tie leader material on, (siglon 8lb flurocarbon), and never have bust-offs at the leader join.

Have tried the XDS fireline and that's better again, but won't be changing over until they've got it in colours other than smoke (grey), as it's hard to see, and with subtle bites, you can miss them.

Cheers guys

I love a full bag...................  but I love emptying it better

I LOVE P-Line in 8lb. test.  It works great in almost any situation, top to bottom.  Has super low memory, low stretch, and is stonger than any other 8lb. test line on the market.  It's rated to 8lb. but I believe that it will easily hold 10 or more.

It's not the cheapest line in the marina, but it is well worth it.  I use it mostly for finesse fishing, when there is good potential for hanging a big fish.  Such as on a mojo rig.

This is definately a best buy for the serious fisherman!

I like Sufix Siege on my baitcasters. Good knot strength and abrasive resistance.

eye tried a spool of 8lb K-Mart blue several years ago but it was hard to keep the knots to stay and it just wouldn't hold up to them kitty-kats too well  ;D kept breaking  on me  :'( :'( ;D

I use Spiderwire Stealth for fishing frogs, rats over matted grass & lily pads.

OK, I dont know much about line, thats Pferox's job..  ;)
But I use 14lb Fireline (super line). I like it because it doesnts break too easily. I tend to get hung up a lot with rocks or branches under the water..  I can usually pull out without breakage.  besides... its pink  ;D  so I can see where my cast went and dont lose it in the sun.

Many of the braids and superlines will last longer than their dyes, this is really not a problem, unless the color chosen is for camoflaging pourposes.

They can safely be relocolored with a magic marker, and after a few casts the smell of the marker will diminish,

This trick can be also used to change the color of the line to suit your needs.

As an example, some types of free line fishing demands a high visibility line, but the end also needs to be toned down a little this can be done with a corosponding color of choice, blue or a blue green are some examples.

Yjere was one more fishing line I would like to state. There were days when I couldn't afford all the bells and whistles when it came to line and all I looked at to get fresh line. Yep Shakespeare omni-flex in what ever size was available. I always tried to keep my line fresh and although this stuff wasn't the greatest, it most certainly done the job the first time. Wether it was bass fishing and or catfishing it did the job right. Sometimes I wish i was back on simple times as It was more of me than the line. Cause it was all we could afford to get some new stuff.

When fish are line shy, I believe that ultimate stealth is needed, that is when I want my leaders to vanish, and so I use Berkley's Vanish.

It has little stretch, so you have to be careful with the hooksets. Because the coating is a fluorocarbon, you must treat it like a floro when tying knots, wet and slow.

I like BPS Excal 10 for cranking.  It does get some memory, so I spray some Reel Magic on it to relieve it of its memory.

I was always taught to wet the line before a knot is this actually a good thing or maybe not? any thoughts

dimockcarp  speaking from experiance  :roll2: :roll2: to me yes it is a good  :-* to wet it before drawing the knot tight  ;) Lost my first buzz bait that way  :roll2:
I use Berkley's Vanish in 12 lb for my leaders also for the same reason as Pferox it's strong and hard to see in the water.

I'll use fluorocarbon when drop-shotting in clear water
