not sure but if it says DFI, that means it is the most current revision optimax and is oil injected rather than premix.  the older two strokes needed their oil premised into the gasoline. I merc. engineer told me that the DFI was the best because it actually sprays oil on key engine components in various amounts depending on heat and load sensor data.... as well as have it mixed with the fuel prior to combustion.

would you go with a new older year opt thin a new year elpto i found a new 2005 opt for 3,600 off  :-\

scialli

I would choose the optimax every time. fuel injection and the brains that come with it is dope. not to mention the DFI

i got 4g's for mine when i repowered. It was only 6 months old.

BTW DFI= direct fuel injection. There is a night and day difference between an ELPTO and an optimax. The optimax is a turn key motor. No choking, no giving throttle. Get in, turn the key. It primes, throttles and starts like a car. That alone is worth it IMO. Especially on a cold morning.

It was around 5k out the door......but that included: motor, jackplate, prop, water pressure gauge, and install of all.

He gave me prop, jackplate, gauge at 10% over cost.

about how much lower does the 90 sit then the 50  :-\

All other things being equal (gas/load) maybe 2 inches?

The opti is 375 pounds. The 50 elpto is about 200 if i remember correctly. That is a 175 pound difference. Not sure what you weigh but it would be easy to measure just by getting in the boat and standing on the transom to simulate the difference.

weight is important but it is all about the jack plate. it transforms the entire personality of the boat.  don't kid yourself

The speed wont be close. you would be lucky to break 45 without a plate. Trust me.....if you are going to go through the cost of repowering you must do a jack plate. no question.

is it hard to install your self becouse with my trade in i can get the 90 opt for 4grand if i install ~bb

Nope, jackplates are pretty easy to install.  Then, simply hang the motor on the fackplate and run the controls.  The only thing is, you'll have to make sure that your shifter and throttle cables are long enough withthe addition of a jackplate.

And trust me, weight isn't the only thing that makes your boat go.  Having an adjustable jackplate will allow you to dial in the correct motor height on your transom, and THAT will have an effect on how the boat runs!

I own a 06' PT 190 with a 90 OPTI on back, I run a 13X23p Aluminum prop on back.  Me/partner/gear and full gas tank can get 47-49 pending on water roughness and trim.  I can consistantly hit 47mph which I love.  I believe the 190 is rated for 135hp, I would get the biggest outboard you can afford.  The boat will handle relatively big water/waves but you need an outboard to keep that long/light bow on top of them though.  I heard that mercury was introducing a 125hp motor as well maybe an option if its available?  But I think that 115 Pro XS would make her fly though!   ~c~

the dealer should only charge you an hour to hang the plate and motor.... mine did. I highly recommend the CMC. it is super easy to adjust on the water and is a quality piece.
