just wanting some info on the 90 hp 2 stroke  on a pro 190 ...what is the top speed?

JuneBugFinesse87

not sure how long or heavy a pro 190 is but i have a 90 hp johnson 2 stroke on a 16 foot blazer and it topped at 50-55 i put a manta ray fin on the motor and now i get less drag and on a calm day i get 60-65 maxed out but usually top out 55-60 hope that helps (i fiddled witht he carb a little but i dont think that makes too much difference) your boat might not have a carb mine is a little older...

I'd tend to go along with wvBassangler on the speeds. My 17 foot tournamentV with a 75 horse two people and a full load 39-41. 21 pitch 3 blade stainless prop.

Unless you already own the 90 hp outboard, I'd suggest the following.

Pick the boat YOU think will do the job for YOU!

Then, look at the maximum horsepower the boat's rating plate allows.  Then choose an outboard that is no less than 20% of the maximum rated horsepower for the hull.  Anything less than that and you'll be disappointed, I guarantee that.

I had a 17' (fairly lightweight) glass boat with a 75 hp outboard and with all my gear and another angler, I could reach 41 mph.  With two guys and myself, 33 mph was the maximum speed I could get.  Yes, a 90 will do a little better than that, but not much.

It is a VERY false economy to have a boat that is underpowered.  Unless the lake you fish has horsepower restrictions, you'll be better off served by maxing out the horsepower.  A smaller outboard will have to be consistently run at a higher throttle setting to maintain a decent speed, thus burning more fuel.  It will be slow to plane out which can be dangerous and you won't be happy.

When I had my 17' boat with the 75 hp outboard, I'd burn 11 gallons of gas in a typical day of guiding.  With a 21'6" boat with a 250 racing motor, as long as I kept my foot off the floor with the HotFoot, I'd burn nine to ten gallons of gas and get to my spots in much less time as I wouldn't have to run the boat at wide open throttle to maintain my 30 mph and change speed.  I could punch the boat up on plane, back off the throttle to half to 3/4, run in the mid-50 mph range, get there quicker and use less gas.

Pick the boat you like and power it properly.

I agree however go with max on OB you will want more HP you can always slow down but when you get to WOT that's as fast as you can go if your running with 225 OB's go w/ 250 after you swamp em you can kick back  a little and don't have to run WOT

I had a pt 190 with a 90hp optimax its top speed was 45mph

BIG PAPA

I had a 17 ft. alum with a 90 merc and top was around 47 mph
I also had a 18 ft with a 115 merc and top was about 53.

Sgt Rock

I recently purchased a Pro Team 190 with the 90 Optimax and top speed was 41 with two people on board.

I have a 17ft "Tournament V" which I just repowered with a Yamaha 90 Two stroke this past August. With gear, another angler, and adjusting the power trim (per the GPS) I hit 40mph. (I weight 170lbs the other angler is about 260lbs.)

That is with a four blade PowerTech Stainless Steel Prop. A 3 blade prop will give you a little more top end speed (3 to 5 mph at most). But, with a 3 blade you loss a little with your wholeshot and you will reduce your handling at higher speeds.

Don't use the dash mounted pitot tube speedo to "measure" your speed either, those are notoriously worng.  Use GPS to be sure.  I highly doubt you will ever hit 50 with that combo and I agree with the others who say to max the HP.  I used to sel Trackers and that was the biggest complaint.  I would tel folks to max, but they didn't want to spend the money, but they were never happy with the speed...don't cut corners, you will likely regret it later.

Mine is an 06, fully loaded, full tank of gas and oil, with partner, LazerII 20P SS prop, no jack plate GPS 49 mph and will still over rev. i'm going to swap out for a 21P lazer this spring.

You CAN exceed 50 gps with that combo.  The above gps speed picture was done with a full tank of gas, three trolling motor batteries, and a lot if gear.  The dash shot below at 5800 rpm and 56 speedo was turning a 23P trophy plus.

I just started experimenting with the 25P and am in the low 50's already (gps)

You just need a jack plate and a 23-25P trophy plus.  My Tracker salesman fed me the same crap about how I couldn't.  You can.. just need some set up time and the right hardware.

What you can do with a PT190 and 90 Opti jacked to 2.75" below pad running a 25P trophy plus:

... also the above given prop info is not right on the 190 hull.  the four blade trophy plus runs faster due to all the stern lift.  reducing wetted surface friction is the key to making these boats perform.  even with 2 guys you can get them flying.

I have a 2010 175 and want to upgrade are they going to come out with 90 pro xs :-\

scialli

nice ride. from a marketing viewpoint, I can't see why they would.  the 115 pro xs is only a few hundred more dollars than the 90 opti. the 90 opti on that rig flies. can't see you being disappointed.

I love the 90 opt if thay say its faster i want it

scialli

I couldn't really say if it is. my guess is that it would be in changing conditions as the ecu makes adjustments.
