YOUTH - HOOKED ON FISHING, NOT ON DRUGS

The Freedom Bass Anglers founding principles include Supporting the Youth of our community.

The future of our sport is its youth. The Club supports the Youth in our communities by supporting the "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs" program of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs® summer clinics are a 5-day fishing program for boys and girls ages 8-15. Participants learn about watersheds, fishing techniques, freshwater ecology, food webs, and local environmental issues. Emphasis is given to safety, angler ethics, knot tying, casting, catch and release, and fish identification. All activities are designed to increase the enjoyment and knowledge of Maryland's aquatic resources. Natural Resource Police officers teach about water safety and precautions that should be taken when fishing on a boat.

The Freedom Bass Anglers donate the worms used at the camps as well as fishing tackle the participants keep for their use fishing after the camps end. The camps at Harford Glen and Eden Mill began yesterday and we have already provided the first 28 dozen worms and plastics.
